guitarristamadrid -> Should Grisha compose his own stuff? Help me convince him to!! (Apr. 15 2010 9:34:09)

I bet it would be sick... Come on Grisha I've watched all your vids, you can play everything of Paco now... that's a lot of work! I'd be really curious to hear what's in your own soul after playing the guitar for all these years. Even if you just composed some really simple little thing, I'd be interested in it... I know how much it must piss you off to hear people say **** like "Your playing is robotic" or "no tiene aire" or whatever. From the first day I showed up in Spain people said **** like that to me, and even after years of doing the same things every other flamenco player does, and practically living with Entri and his crew, there was always someone who would say "Great now you have X Y and Z, but you are missing F" - and it was usually someone who didn't even practice half as much as I did. You must know that feeling - who has invested more time of their life playing guitar than you? The truth is, in a way the haters have a point: we aren't spanish, we aren't gitano, we didn't grow up in andalucia. Our music will always be different But if you compose your own thing, whether within a flamenco structure or not, no one can ever tell you it's inauthentic. It will be truly puro. And that's why Sabicas told Paco to play his own ****, despite the tears it brought him. Music is a constant fusion, ever shifting, ever evolving The fact that you can play eight hours of covers is a testament to your dedication - why not apply some of that to composition? Dude I can picture it Grisha Goryachev: Russian Death Machine (Of tha Stringz) Ok I might be mixing this up with Fedor Emelianenko a bit, my russian hero We should all play guitar as earnestly as that guy hits people in the face. "There is nothing that does not yield to earnestness" - Nisargadatta Maharaj Peace all. Play on -E
