guitarristamadrid -> This is what's going on in Madrid (Apr. 9 2010 2:43:50)

Hi guys, a bunch of people have been emailing me questions about Entri's school in Madrid. I don't have that much time now, but I'll give some quick answers.

How much does it cost?
- They seem to charge different things for different people, depending on how many classes they sign up for. I paid 200 euros a month, and I took two hours of class a day, six days a week. These were group classes lead by El Entri, with between 3-10 other students per class. Also, there was an hour or two of private classes with Entri included in this per week.
All of the other students paid less and took less hours.
Why is it so cheap?
- They are trying to get the school of the ground, and they are not very good with money. They should be charging a lot more.
Does Jesus de Rosario teach there?
- He's not there on a daily basis, but he stops by pretty often, especially when they have juergas. He's a rather reserved individual.
- What's going on with El Viejin?
He's on the dl these days. I think he has some personal **** going on that I'm really not in a position to speculate about. He does give private classes, I don't know how much he charges, but if you asked around the school you could get in contact with him.
- What about el culto?
It's not that big a deal. It's just a church. I've been there. Entri takes it very seriously, but he is the center of the Madrid flamenco universe, so if there is some ban on the flamenco life there, I don't see how it is being enforced. The time I went there there was a band, and they played loud rock music, almost punk. The preacher danced around and shouted into the mic and it was like a party. Think southern baptist
- How am I involved in all of this?
I moved to Madrid in 2005 and in 2006 I started studying with El Entri. Within in a short period it became my whole life. Time passed and soon I was playing 40 hours a week. For years I was probably Entri's most dedicated student. I didn't really do anything else. Recently I have dedicated myself to composing and playing my own music, which you can find at www.myspace.com/evancary

Ok, guitar time.

Ok I am totally failing at getting any work done today... on an unrelated note, if anyone is in Madrid over the next couple months and wants to meet up to do flamenco or just play music, I"m around

Hola,
I email them few week ago and the answer i receive for what you're talking about is 200 euros per week.

So if you pay 200 euros per month, is that you benefited from favorable prices. And i don't think they are going to charge us the same amount that you [8|]

According to information I received I do not think it is so cheap.
Man 300 euros/week for the intensive one isn't cheap. At least for me [;)]
It's more like "normal" price.

Hey are you the guy in this vid who talking about rock n'rolla [:D] at 4min30 ?

Anyway if the prices have changed and it is really possible to take intensive class 2 hours per day, for 300/ month it gets really interesting. But I do not believe. [:)]

guitarristamadrid,

Do you play any Flamenco?

I had a listen through your Website uploads, but it's all your "own stuff".

Any Flamenco vids you could post?

cheers,

Ron

To answer questions:

As to the price ****, I really don't know what's up with them. While their flamenco instruction is excellent, in fact probably the best you will ever find anywhere, when it comes to the business side of things, it can get sketchy. The fact that they are charging everyone different amounts of money doesn't surprise me.

Yeah, that's me in the video, about 2 -3 years ago.

Ron M: Do I play flamenco? Well I CAN play flamenco, a better question might be, do I anymore? The only flamenco I really feel like playing these days is a little solea or tarantas... maybe I'll throw one up some day. Let you know if I do.

I'm sure I'll get around to making a technique video at some point. I do all kinds of crazy **** like arpeggios using menique, playing picadoo with all three pairs of fingers, combining different types of rasgeo into one rhythmic unit etc. I just got to the point where I played so much I exhausted all of Entri's technique exercises and started making my own

ooops

guitarristamadrid -> RE: This is what's going on in Madrid (Apr. 9 2010 9:59:08)

What I would recommend with the canorroto guys is this: If they tell you some high ass price, just argue em down, propose something reasonable, and I bet they will take it

Hi guitarrista,

Thanks for that.

Well, I can hear you are a good guitar student and have a passion for playing, like a number of members we have already on the Forum. (as you can hear in the "uploads" section).

Since most of the members here are interested in "Flamenco Flamenco", do you have a Tangos or Bulerias or anything "en Compás" you could upload?

Good luck with your journey anyway Evan.

You know what you want to do and that's what really matters...
Whether it works out or not is another thing as we all know..

BTW...I have great memories of Madrid and Amor de Dios!

cheers,

Ron

[:D][:D] Yes, indeed. I also always wondered how Moraito gets these nice picados down with similar long nails at the i and a finger..^^
