I will always remember the day I started playing guitar, you guys have that too? LOL! When I first got interested, I didn't have a guitar, but played the trumpet in school. The Beatles came on the scene (1962) when I was 12. I really liked Paul McCartney's "violin" bass, so I made myself a little bass out of an old draghtsman's T-Square, some screw-style battery terminals and some bought tuning heads. The strings I nicked from a cello in the school music cupboard. [:D] My big brother had a tape recorder which also worked like an amp, so I secured the (flat style) mic behind the "bridge" (piece of wood) with an elastic band. Sounded pretty good! I even bought a book on bass and learned basic boogie riffs! No frets of course...just basic fretless T-Square! Rock on! cheers, Ron PS: My brother then fancied learning guitar himself, so bought a "real" (steel string) guitar for about 2 quid. Later, we went on holiday to London and to Southend (Seouffend) and stayed at a B&B where their son (15) played drums! (This was my first venture into "deep" enemy Southern English land, so was quite pleased to find a kindred spirit! [:D]) (Though we had to speak slowly to understand each other) Great holiday!
