Adam -> Man of La Mancha? Help!! (Mar. 30 2010 22:25:02)

So I met a guy last night who's putting on a production of Man of la Mancha, and since I'm apparently the only flamenco guitarist on campus they asked me to play in it [:D] So this is pretty exciting, I've never really performed for a big audience before, but I don't know much about it except for a song or two. They say it's scored for flamenco guitar but is it really meant for flamenco players, or more for classically trained players? Will I need to learn to read sheet music better, or is there good tab out there for the music?

Anyone who's got experience with this play, I'd appreciate some heads up!!

I saw Man of La Mancha years ago.
It has nothing to do with flamenco.

Edgar884 (Gabriel Edgar) did this a couple years back. I'm sure he has some insight.

Here's a decent version of one of the songs where you can hear the guitar.
You may want to write out a sheet of chord changes if you're worried about
sight reading. Its not flamenco (as said before) but theres plenty opportunity
for rasgeos.

I played in a production of this about 4 years ago. The guitar music in the score basically just indicated chords to play, with suggested rhythms that you can play with whatever rasgueo you feel is appropriate. None of the music follows any flamenco palo, it's more in line with what you would expect from a musical, just with rasgueos from a guitarist to give it a different flavour. If you know chords and their names (eg have read jazz charts or similar) it will be pretty easy to follow.

Thanks everyone! I've got the sheet music (really just chords with some suggesting strumming patterns) but I'm having a bit of trouble just reading some of the chords. Where can I find a useful chord chart? For example, there are chords marked maj7(9) which I can't find on any of the chord sites I've checked......

play the 9 or don't. up to you. substitute if more flamenco. Go with balls over extended tonality

rename to pdf after downloading
