a_arnold -> Chinese Condes and family breakup (Mar. 28 2010 5:47:51)

I have been told by folks at GSI that there is a rift in the Conde family that resulted from one brother getting guitars made in China. This happened in the last 6 months, apparently. I have been away from the for for a while and probably missed the thread, and the search engine hasn't turned up anything.

Can anyone fill me in or point me at a thread in the foro that discusses the breakup?

Arash -> News from Conde Hermanos (Mar. 29 2010 9:32:46)

I don't know if there is already something posted about this or not:

Ok, so my friend (who is a guitar dealer) was in the Music exhibition in Frankfurt Germany this Saturday.
Unfortunately i couldn't go there.

He bought some guitars , from Camps and Hnos. Sanchis Lopez, etc.

I don't know anything about a "Chinese Story" ! But seams like the Conde Brothers are definately seperated.

This time they had 2 completely seperate exhibition stands !!

One was named "Conde Hermanos" and the other one was "Felipe Conde".

And seams that the Guitars from Felipe Conde now have "Felipe Conde" as Lable.

There is also a new website from Felipe Conde (which is under construction).
I saw the new business card.

www.felipeconde.es

his email is: FConde.Guitarras@FelipeConde.es

Note: its not .com, its .es (.com is from a Singer)

Wrong. One was Felipe Conde and the other was Mariano Conde. Conde Hermanos didn't have a stand.

Arash -> RE: Chinese Condes and family breakup (Mar. 30 2010 11:00:20)

well, a familly breakup is not a proof for the chinese story.

we have familly breakups in 50% of all famillies worldwide [:D]

this chinese story could be a rumor to take advantage of the situation.
and Conde Hermanos ( i mean Mariano and Felipe ;-) have many "enemies" as we know. so, this must have been a good time for a "chinese story".

however, my friend told me that the conde guitars he tried out there, were not so damn good. but he was crazy for the Hnos. Sanchis Lopez guitars. seams like there was even more improvement since last years. he also bought a Sanchis Lopez 1F blanca which i tried and this guitar was really really good.

on the other hand, this could be a chance.

because they will have to build up reputation again with the "new" names and they must compete against eachother, if the name "Conde Hermanos" wouldn't exist anymore.

So if someone would like to buy a Conde , he has 2 alternatives and (as you asked) he would ask himself "who is better" ?

So they have to top eachother to be able to sell guitars to more people and be better than the other brother.

Kind of Conde VS Conde situation.

and if they were both THAT good in business and soulless money grubbing people as many people claim, they would keep the name "Conde Hermanos" for business and backstage continue their familly fight or whatever.

But they decided to completely seperate.

So maybe thats good for buyers AND good for the quality of guitars.

Ah, you mean the "Chooky Embra" as he is known here in Scotland.

Making fun of accents isn't racist.

Comedy shows are doing it all the time...the Scottish accent gets sent up all the time, along with Irish, Welsh, Geordie, Liverpool, Brummy, Cockney, Devon....

The Russians take a blasting too, along with George-W style American, Italians, Spanish, Chinese..etc etc etc.

The creator of "The Swedish Chef" in the Muppets must be a racist pig! [:D]

I'm sure the Chinese must have a laugh at all our accents when they hear someone trying to speak Chinese!

What a dull and miserable place the world would be if PC had to rule...

cheers,

Ron

When I called you a racist, I only meant it in the nicest possible way.[:D]

HolyEvil -> RE: Chinese Condes and family breakup (Mar. 31 2010 3:24:06)

So does that mean that there is a Gravina Conde Hermanos, Antocha Conde Hermanos, Felipe Conde and Mariano Conde brand of guitars from now on?

Ricardo -> RE: Chinese Condes and family breakup (Mar. 31 2010 6:13:16)

For the record. I played a guitar this summer, in a second hand shop in California. It
was a Conde Hermanos from 1985, Gravina address, but the guitar was quite
unique. On the label it was hand signed "Felipe Conde", the back and sides were
Walnut, and there were some strange details in the trimmings. It was a media luna,
and the sound was freaking amazing. For me it beat out the Reyes and a couple
other top guitars that were also there. My gut feeling was that this was made by
Felipe while working in his father's shop in Gravina, and was allowed to sign his own
name for some reason. Or perhaps it was one of his first made instruments and he
was helped by his father or uncle in hopes to establish his name. But either way this
was a long time ago. Regardless if these guys outsourced most or all of their
instruments from the Felipe V address, I would have to say based on that
instrument this one guy Felipe conde seems to actually know how to build a great
guitar. Let's hope he does more of the same under his own name.

Ricardo that must have been a heavy negra, walnut wood is very heavy. Not common in flamenco guitars.

Not all walnut is heavy. Like most hardwoods the weight varies considerably depending on the environment where it grows. Of course I'm only talking walnut native to N. America. I've never really thought of it as a tonewood but you can make a decent guitar out of virtually any hardwood. It's the topwood that makes the sound. Main problem with walnut in my opinion is the foul smell.

RobJe -> RE: Chinese Condes and family breakup (Mar. 31 2010 13:02:20)

2010 looks like an interesting year for the Conde dynasty. !985 was also a significant year. During 1985 Julia Conde started signing the guitars with the Gravina label - I wonder why. Here is a picture of the label of a walnut guitar signed by Mariano (senior I presume) and what looks like the signatures of his two sons.
