guitargreek -> guitars for sale (Flamenco?) (Mar. 22 2010 8:59:45)

Please be gentle with me as this is my first post!

Apologies for posting like this but I don't know where else to go and I thought someone out there might be able to help.

I have two guitars which I want to sell - one of which appears to be a Flamenco guitar.

Both of them, which are in excellent condition, have been in my mum’s loft for the past 10 years.

The one I think is a Flamenco guitar is a ‘Torre Supremo’. It has a label which says ‘Guitarras De Calidad’, ‘Dallas London’ and is numbered 4440. The guitar has a string missing.

The second is a ‘Kay’ guitar. The label on the inside says G101. This too has a string missing.

I can email pictures - but should I keep them or sell them?!

If anyone can tell me if they're worth anything, then I'd be grateful.

Many thanks

Hi guitargreek,

Hmm...they sort of sound like fairly inexpensive guitars somehow...but I'm not a guitar expert.

Interesting.

Can you post a few pictures?

(include a shot of the label)

The Flamenco one could maybe be good as a beginner's guitar.

A guitar that feels and sounds OK is still a decent guitar!

Also where are you located (with regards to shipping or collection).

cheers,

Ron

Hello guitargreek,

Key

Most likely both of your guitars are rather inexpensive products typically sold through department stores back in the day. As far as Kay company, they made some professional instruments as well, but the majority of their instruments were very basic, student-grade. You can read-up more on wikipedia:

Probably a cheap student classical (not flamenco) model. A quick search turned this up:

quote:

I got a Torre guitar from a friend a few days ago and I found out (from a guitar builder) that my Torre guitar is build in Japan in the 60-70´s. The label inside reads Torre supremo, guitarras de calidad, dallas 4440 london. 4440 is the model number. Dallas is John E Dallas who worked for Arbiter company. They only built 85 4440 guitars. And it shold be worth somewhere around 1500-2000 swedish krona in good condition.

John E Dallas & Son was a long-established company, having been founded c.1875. It operated as a distributor of a wide range of musical instruments, and by the late 1950s Dallas Music Ltd of Dallas Building, Clifton Street, London EC2 had added guitars and amplifiers to it's portfolio.
