(Mar. 21 2010 1:05:35) Hi there guys.. the talk about changing the string spacing got me thinking, would a 56, 56.5 or 57mm string spacing at saddle be beneficial for the right hand technique? Won't the 56-57mm make picado and rasq easier? only downside is tremolo? anyone here play on a guitar with a 56-57mm string spacing at saddle? cheers

XXX -> RE: Saddle String Spacing of 56-57mm? (Mar. 21 2010 4:37:48) I am a firm believer of narrow string spacing, at the bridge as well as over the fretboard. If i measure from center of E string to center of e string i get 55.5mm on my old guitar and 56.6 on the new. To be honest, the wider one feels more "narrow" an better in my hands than the 55.5 one, because it has a better general setup and balancing, BUT when i compare to 58 and above guitars, i prefer the narrower ones. There are many variables that can change from guitar to guitar, but given two identical ones, i would always prefer a more narrow string spacing. I also prefer 50-51mm at the nut and a very thick, round neck, as opposed to a thin and flat one. Strange that it took me years to find that out.

I personally dont like to play "narrow" guitars and I only recommend it to people with very small hands. But its a very personal thing and I build orders form 56 - 60mm stringspacing at the bridge.
