cubafilm -> Sandra Bara Flamenco Cuba. (Mar. 11 2010 9:40:05)

I would like to draw attention to my documentary project, I am filming the life of Sandra Bara, a Flamenco dancer from Cuba, who has moved to Seville. She started dancing professionally when she was 15 , at 18 she danced solo in front of Fidel Castro for a televised performance. She formed her own dance company at 21. She was the subject of two animation films, one on international release later this year. I have put a 5 minute clip up on youtube, i hope you enjoy it.

We are about three quarters of the way through a three year project.

Seems to be an interesting story and the overall look seems quite good. Excuse any negative implications. I don't know who your market is or the underlying purpose of the film, but if you have only have one clip in there to introduce us to her it should not be Sevillanas. Even though Sevillanas is considered one of the flamenco forms now. It is a Sptanish folk dance that several people might know and participate in without knowing anything about flamenco.

Color me interested. When is this due for release?

I am a documentary film maker, it was whilst filming in Cuba that I discovered Sandra, this project is a labour of love and self funded. I am new to Flamenco so in no way do I fully understand it, i am not a musician or dancer. I have started to make friends in this area and actually put on small show in central London.

The project should be finished next year. It will get TV distribution in some countries but dance can be difficult to place.

Sounds like a great project, good spirit. Just be sure to film the whole scenery/band not just the dancer, even if the movie might only be about the dancer. Dance is actually easy to "market", opposed to just guitar or singing.

what a coincidence.

few minutes ago , i found this on youtube and wanted to post it for the foro people.

best of luck with your project.
