Jeff Highland -> Geometry (Mar. 5 2010 12:12:38)

Hi Guys,
I have been lurking here for a while and finally registered
I am building my first flamenco (up till now i have built ukuleles and steel string guitars)
I have a few books Courtnall, Bogdanovich. Sloan all different methods but none specific to flamenco.

I know I should be aiming for string height around 8mm at the bridge and 3mm at 12th.

--do I dome the soundboard for a flamenco--2mm?
-What thickness of fretboard works best, tapered or constant thickness.
-I have read advice on string height above soundboard at soundhole, is this at the back of the soundhole.

I guess I am looking to work out neck angle on my solera.
thanks
Jeff

Welcome Jeff.

I was told in Spain that you should just be able to get a Marlboro cigarette under the strings in front of the bridge and that the width of the strings at the bridge is the same as a Marlboro pack. Guess he saved a lot on tools that way [:D]

I am sure one of our resident luthiers will pick this up.

Sorry, I really don't want to take up smoking, is it compulsary for a flamenco player?

Hi Escribano

What you heard is not exactly what they said. They said that a Marlboro Cigarette shout fit underneath the strings in front of the bridge.

A pack would mean about 20mm and thats way too much even for a classical guitar played by a monster;-)

regards

That's what I meant, edited [;)]
