The leather has come away from the timber on my traditional cejilla. What type of glue is best for glueing leather to timber?

Epoxy? That is what I would try on a spare piece of wood and scrap of leather.

Contact glue works very well. Thats what shoemakers use when gluing the sole on your shoes. Remember to put glue on both leather and wood and then let it dry before gluing it together.

You can use superglue as well. Very easy. Epoxy is good, but its a bit annoying to work with. Besides its strong bond will do that in the future, it´ll be the leather delaminating instead of the gluejoint

I leave it unglued in the spot near the hole, so when the string breaks it is easy to fix without having to peel back the leather again.

Not that hide glue is a common household staple these days (I'm told by my grandpa that it was once upon a time) but hide glue works really well for both leather and wood. Hide glue fixing leather..... Sounds a bit incestuous, but it works.
