El Craic -> christmas guitar course in london (Nov. 2 2004 12:19:25)

http://www.latinquarter.org.uk/classes.htm (sorry, i have changed this to correct URL)

The Flamenco Guitar Course will have classes at two levels.
Beginners, for those with little or no experience, will cover
technique and information on different 'palos' (styles). The
Intermediate/Advanced is for those with some experience and will cover advanced technique, structure (which will include accompaniment) and application of different 'palos' (styles). The course will run for 5 days, two hours a day and is taught by Tito Herédia.

I just cut and paste this from their website. Now sadly I will be in Barcelona for Christmas and New Year and will be unable to attend but if anyone from this part of the world (Fergus??) has studied with Tito Heredia or done one of these courses I would be really interested in your take on it. I've seem him with Ramon Ruiz and he certainly plays well but what's he like as a teacher?

Actually I haven't checked the price yet, knowing London I'd need a loan...

Thanks!!!!

Emma

Tito Heredia is the icing on any cake. Phenomenal, muy flamenco. He could work anywhere in Spain he wanted. Nobody in Britain even comes close. He is the best (when reasonably clean or sober).

Might I say this might be too advanced for you? Still, he has aire de verdad so anyone with yuur talent would catch some of it. My worthless advice (which you will ignore anyway) is to spend your money on a week in Jerez or Cadiz.

Suerte

Sean

Hey Sean,

Right....I wouldn't enrol for anything too advanced I'm still on basic compas! However, the course is also for complete beginners, if you read the text. I could talk to him first I suppose.

I won't ignore you Sean I always listen to you! Just don't always do what you say.

I have seen Tito play and I think he's smashing. I haven't heard anything about his teaching though which is why i asked and I do have to fly to London. I will be be in Jerez for the festival as usual in March! See you then Sean.

Tito is a terrific player but nearly impossible to get anywhere with.
Tito just playes at millions of miles an hour and can't answer any questions you might have about compas, numbers, where does that fit in, what's the count? He's just one of those brilliant self taught flamencos who feels compas without having to think.
Well at least that's my experience of him.
Great to hear him play and exciting to be with, but teaching...?

Jim.

Thanks Jimbo, was curious. I see Ramon is doing similar according to Simons post below, only for a weekend. If I lived in London I would definately go along because all experiences are worthwhile, but being in Ireland means sticking another £100 on the price tag. It's always worth finding out about these things though.
