Hey Guys, Picked up a new guitar today and it stinks man. No really; I had only unzipped about eight inches of the case and I could already smell it. Strange smell. Reminded me of those old spray tins of Wasp Killer that my mum used to use. I like it.

I met one time a guitarist I never met before... at his apartment and we played some bulerias, tangos...etc.. Than he started smoking drugs.. My guitar and case smelled for several weeks.. Never met him again. [&:]

A friend of mind just got this week a electronic contrabass and played through a wah wah, big muff, and envelope filter....its really kicked ass... Could be a fin-de-fiesta for flamenco....maybe once and never again...but its worth trying

People tend to smell their sh*t after having been to the toilet, when something smells funny you might be sick. It's also possible that it's the case fabric that smells. It happened to me once and the guitar stank of chemicals.

My Pedro De Miguel Negra stank to high heaven when I bought it of chemicals. Not sure if the guitar, or glue in the case holding the fabric in. In any case I left the guitar out on the stand a lot, and left the case out in the garage open for a week or so to air out, and the smell is long gone now. Just normal lacquer solvent, or glue chemical outgassing sound like to me. It'll ease up over time. Jeff

once i bought a guitar through ebay (gladly it was a very cheap guitar), and that guitar smelled like if it was treated and fumigated with farting. i couldn't figure out, why it smelled like that and i didn't dare to ask the seller. i mean, what could i have asked? "hey, your guitar smells like sh.it. why ?" i used a wet cloth and cleaned the guitar as thoroughly as i could, and after a while the smell was gone. i will never buy a guitar through ebay again. you never know who was using it. that reminded me on Doits idiom: maybe i should have asked the seller:" did you played that guitar or sticked it up your ass?" [&:]

So this is a big heads-up for anyone who wants to buy a new guitar. I can only say thanks for sharing this since I'm planning on buying a new guitar very soon :P
