Hello everybody. My name is Magi, I'm from Israel, and as a final project I've been asked to write about Flamenco. One of the tasks of the project was a questionnaire. I'll be very happy if you answer this questions. It'll help me a lot!

stratos13 -> RE: Flamenco Project (Feb. 9 2010 7:48:54)

You are at the wrong place for sure[;)][;)][;)]
Your answers by allmost everybody:

1.yes
2.yes
3.yes to all
4.yes to all (something else- everything else)
5.every single name out there (famous or not)
6.yes
7.the only question worth asking

Sorry but this is the truth [:o]

The reason for that is worth finding out (when telephones were only for the rich a survey by phone would give you the opinion of the rich, not of the people in general).
I think the forum community (arash) will agree with me on that.

stratos13 -> RE: Flamenco Project (Feb. 9 2010 8:38:23)

Sorry if i was a little hard on you.

The fact is your questionaire is quite good, in that it has few questions, it is closed type and so on.
But you should choose a better sample of people to ask.
imo it is much better to make about 100 photocopies and give it randomly to people passing by a random spot in your city.
That should give you a nice sample of people.[;)]

Kate -> RE: Flamenco Project (Feb. 10 2010 6:39:41)

Hey Magi, good luck with your project but think you have come to a place where everyone loves flamenco, otherwise they would not be here just as Stratos said. The forum is also mostly made up of guitarists, though there are a few of us who dont play guitar and we do have a few female dancers, so your final question wont be relevant to most people here. Learning flamenco to most here means playing guitar not dancing.

age - urgh 48 [&:]

1 yes of course
2 yes reluctantly dragged on stage
3 everything, though not bothered about costumes, that depends on the performance. I love dance rehearsals when everyone is wearing jeans ! I cant imagine flamenco without the singing !! Your question makes me think you see flamenco mainly as a dance form.
4, would depend on a lot of things, the palo, the place, the performers but generally all those things and more.
5 Yes could fill pages with performers and personalities connected to flamenco.
6 yes
7 no I could never become a professional flamenco dancer but love learning to dance to join in at parties/weddings etc.

Hope that helps
[:)]

Adam -> RE: Flamenco Project (Feb. 10 2010 7:34:42)

Shalom magi - just a thought I had from reading your questions. You seem to have a misconception about flamenco that's very common (especially outside of Spain), that flamenco is mostly a dance. It's in statements like "the dance itself" or the last question, suggesting that learning flamenco means learning dance. The dance actually isn't the most important thing about flamenco; the most important thing is the singing. The dance is flashy and gets the most attention outside of AndalucĂa, but the singing is far more important. Today the guitar has also become a very important solo instrument itself. Just don't want you to turn in a final project saying flamenco is mainly a dance or something :)

Doitsujin -> RE: Flamenco Project (Feb. 10 2010 12:02:11)

Thats a joke. Hes laughing his ass off for sure. You know how to occupy 10 black (afro american or with african origins.. colored.. whatever calling is politically correct..select it. Im no racist) people for several hours? Throw a basketball to them. And that counts for this kind of questions in a flamenco forum. 8.)) . What would one have a use for this information? No use except an analysis for a very weak bachelor exam in music-something related.
