Good morning from Madrid. I thought I'd share these videos with everyone. They're a good example of how flamenco can effectively be taught in a group setting. They were taken a couple weeks ago. Towards the end the class really became more of a juerga... that's what happens when you gather a bunch of artists at this level together!

- Entri teaching technique and falsetas

- Playing por bulerias with cante

- Bulerias continues, now with Triana Cortes dancing. This girl has CRAZY skills. She's not even wearing shoes here. Best technical dancer I've ever seen. Entri described her as "la Paco del baile". She drops by the class on a regular basis so we can practice escobillas and rasgeos al compas.

- Ole Torito!!! I love that guy's voice. The kid next to him playing is Aquilino Jimenez, Entri's younger son. I'll have to get a video of him playing some scales at some point... When he is warmed up he basically has a picado faster than ANYBODY, no joke. Jesus de Rosario is off to the left

For those that don't know where Cañorroto is, it's a neighborhood in Madrid and is one of the flamenco capitals of the world. Since the 70s it's been producing a huge amount of high profile flamenco artists and right now it's leading the way in the evolution of the music. Jesus de Rosario, Ramon Jimenez, David Cerreduela, El Viejin, Jeronimo Maya, etc are all from Cañorroto.

I'll keep throwing videos on here when I have time, I'm sure we'll be making lots more. If anybody has any requests I'll do my best.

Keep practicing everybody!!!
-E

El Entri is an amazing teacher. I have the utmost respect for him. Thanks for sharing!

Ricardo -> RE: Videos from a group class of El Entri (feat. Jesus de Rosario) (Feb. 2 2010 23:10:56)

entri sings better then the other two guys. [;)][:D]

Very inspiring thanks for sharing!

NormanKliman -> RE: Videos from a group class of El Entri (feat. Jesus de Rosario) (Feb. 3 2010 0:17:08)

Hi guitarrista, thanks for the videos! Triana moves beautifully at 2:44-2:49, like water and an earthquake at the same time! Torito has a good voice for Caracol (and for other things, of course).

That fandango: "...Sin ti yo vivo en la gloria"

¡Ole! ¡Vivalasperiensia!

If you have time and it's not too much trouble, I would enjoy reading what you can tell us about El Nani and Enrique de Melchor, about their importance in Cañorroto. And tell us more about the academia if you like. There are admirers of Cañorroto on this forum![:)]

EDIT: Whoops, I just saw your previous post Evan.

He was playing alot in that bulerias, just can't hear em with all the other guitars. He seems kind of shy next to his dad....or bored.[;)]

XXX -> RE: Videos from a group class of El Entri (feat. Jesus de Rosario) (Feb. 3 2010 9:22:07)

Jesus accompanied on the minera.
In the bulerias i think his brother or something played a Paco falseta. Of course i was expecting some canorroto stuff [:D]. But maybe there is more to come!

guitarristamadrid -> RE: Videos from a group class of El Entri (feat. Jesus de Rosario) (Feb. 3 2010 12:58:38)

This is as real as it gets, folks. I was the only foreigner in the room. When a bunch of flamencos from Cañorroto get together and jam, this is what it looks like. I've seen this happen many, many times. If you're looking for fancy falsetas have a look at...

- This is Jony, one of Entri's students who has been with him for a very long time.

- Aquilino Jimenez, another student of Entri's for many years, and also his son

Jesus could have played falsetas all day long if he felt like it, but he was focusing on accompanying the singer, which is what a flamenco guitarist actually does.

Yes, I also had that feeling from the bulerias solo youtube video of him where he actually IS in the centre of attention and not just in the last corner behind a pole and 3 guys, strumming with in total around 10 other guys together... tststs... Who would like to see Paco de Lucia playing with 10 shrummers when nobody can hear him? [:D]

With "he doesnt really show up there but using his name as comercial catcher of attention" I meant...man.. here an example! [:-]

guitarristamadrid -> RE: Videos from a group class of El Entri (feat. Jesus de Rosario) (Feb. 3 2010 14:29:07)

Doitsujin, you have quite a few things to learn about flamenco my friend!!!

guitarristamadrid -> RE: Videos from a group class of El Entri (feat. Jesus de Rosario) (Feb. 3 2010 15:26:32)

Ok, speaking about prices, I felt uncomfortable stating exactly how much I pay because I'm not an official representative of the school or anything like that. I asked Raul about it and he said that anyone who is curious can email him and he will give them the breakdown. His email is academiacanorroto@hotmail.com . Right now they have a bunch of deals depending on how many hours you take, oferta por jovenes, etc.

I never understood why the price can be such a big secret. How difficult is it to write on their website for instance:
From 1 to 15 hours per month: €35 per hour
From 16 to 35 hours per month: €30 per hour
More than 35 hours per month: €25 per hour

Is it really more difficult than answering each email with the same reply?

Thats right. Youre welcome.[;)]

guitarristamadrid -> RE: Videos from a group class of El Entri (feat. Jesus de Rosario) (Feb. 4 2010 12:00:43)

Hey guys! Mike, I passed on what you said to Raul, I told him the price **** is confusing to people. He said he is making a price sheet that lists all the offers, and he will get it up on the website ASAP.

Those example prices that you gave are what you would pay for one on one classes with Entri or Jesus. But obviously no one could afford to do lots of hours like that, so most of your hours are going to be in group classes with 1-15 other guitarists. Those group classes cost a fraction as much

personally I've never paid more than 300 euros a month

Doitsujin you are showing some humility now, good, this is how you must learn

Thanks Guitarista,

Too Cool For School. Not me man. I'll have to put some extra pressure on my lovely lady to get a transfer to her companies Madrid office.

Years ago we all thought one to one is the best way but I can see a few advantages in the group classes that you just wouldn't get from one to one.

As you said in your previous post, a mix of group and individual instruction, it's ideal man.

Hope you're making the most of it, good luck.
