so how do you guys do your p up, ami (or am, mi, etc.) down rasgueados?

do you hold your fingers tight together as though you're holding a pick?

i use my a and m fingers together, keep my hand relaxed and loose like i would with p, am, p triplets. my index sticks out a bit to get out of the way.

i'm having trouble getting the control, speed, volume, tone, endurance that i want. even with slow practice.

I have seen players do that really well.
I cannot do it well also, even though i am very comfortable with abanico.
If you want to do very fast rasgueado with 4-beats, you can use the following.
P up, A down, I down, P down.
It is a mix between abanico used by Vicente and the one used by Paco, but with 4 beats instead of 3.
It is easy and goes really fast. If you control it, it is very good sounding also(Rafael Cortes uses it i think).

thanks stratos, i'll give that a try later. i wonder if it's as loud as p, am though as that what's so appealing about it.

Hey Stratos!

Thanks for this p a i p rasgueo. It really grooves and I'm going to declinate it in all sorts of rhythmic inversions and displacements.

Made my day!

I've been messing around with one that I really like using now for SpB or Alegrias over 3 beats like 1,2,3:

aipa ipai p
ddud dudd u

It's great when the amii amii i feels too aggressive.

I never hold any fingers together for pai or p am p type stuff except for the am obviously.
But there's a cool rasgueado that I mentioned somewhere else where you hold p and i together and use those up and down combined with m to get a triplet. It has a cool soft crystally effect on the trebles.

I just realized I didn't answer your question, sorry [:D]
