if you like it, this solea por bulerias is also included in the Encuentro DVD from Nunez (which i can recommand to anyone anyways). including tabs. however the piece is not shown in slow video version but you can see everything in the normal version too

i'll check out the dvd, arash. it's a really beautiful spb. looks damn hard to play though.

I like Gerardo's music a lot however there is one put-off that prevents me from listening to him more often.

He repeats some parts (normally not the interesting parts) out of proportion [:D]. Here for instance he repeats the intro 4 times right at the beginning of the piece, then 4 more times later. Imagine after listening to this piece just 5 times I have already heard the intro 40 times [:D]. The sixth time I'm listening to this piece I'm already sicking tired of the intro and know that it's going to be played 4 times before giving way to other more interesting parts and I know that's not all, it will haunt me later again [:D]

dude, this is not CNN breaking news ticker or a stock ticker rolling by your tv, but a piece of music with structure.

some distinctive and fundamental parts , like the intro are played 4 times at the beginning, 0.12 - 0.47 (total 40 seconds!) and from that , the second 2 times are added with the bass from the bassist.
then just 2 times in the middle of the piece at 1.58 and just 2 times at the end.

this is not too much. specially if this part is the catchy tune /earworm which everybody remembers from the piece

I actually always felt it was a cool thing that Gerardo would repeat melodies. Especially the groovy ones. It really grabbed me coming from Rock guitar background, sort of like you have cool riffs you like to do over and over with the drummer and really groove on it. I identified with Gerardo's reasoning for that and, yeah he is one of the few that does that.

I also agree that THAT particular melody for Solxbul by Gerardo got old on me too. Not just from THAT recording but I have seen him play that LONG before it was on Solome, or jazz paña II, or Cruces Caminos, or Youtube, or Encuentro, ETC ETC. he has been playing that falseta since 1999 when I first went to Sanlucar, and was the first piece we learned.

So multiply all THAT by 8x!!!![:D][:D][:D]

i like repeating riffs, coming from a rock background like ricardo, especially in the beginning when my attention span was shorter.

but the cool thing about gerardo is that he doesn't depend on it, like others who sound like they can't come up with anything else so they just play the same thing over and over.

my beef with gerardo is that his music is really.... pensive and contemplative, i guess, depressing at times. i'd lose focus if i listened to it while driving and would crash.

anyways, i'm going to try to learn it. i'll be happy with just the intro.[:)]

By the way, the one time I hung out with Tomatito, he started singing "Ciudad de las ideas" theme and sung it repeatedly for more than a minute, until I was on the floor
from laughter. That was his friendly criticism of Vicente's music.
