Hello everyone,

I want to buy a flamenco guitar, and I am considering these two (for a particular reason):

You all know where I'm at with respect to flamenco guitar playing, and I believe it's about time to move from my $80 Hohner HC06 classical guitar, to a better FLAMENCO guitar. I need your advice on which of these two guitars, if any, to go for:

1- What do you think of the prices? Are they fair, or too expensive? (I tried checking out the prices from the Sanchis Carpio website, but was unable to find them)

2- What about the actual guitars? Which one would you recommend (if money were an issue, versus if it were NOT an issue)?

3- Does anyone have experience with these two brands and particular models?

Any advice would be highly appreciated.

Im not familiar with Raimundo prices. The 1F is a bit too expensive. You can get it for 1700$ used.
I find it a bit confusing Carpio calls his second best model as "1"F, because he has a top model that is over 6k$ new.

I think considering the guitar you played until now, any guitar above 600€ used will make you very happy [:D] Its really a big difference.

There you can order all instruments and see their prices. If you wan´t a Sanchis I would recommend to buy it directly from them or from Mundo-Flamenco. They ship world wide.

The Ebay Sanchis is a little bit overpriced... BTW They don´t use this label since 2005 any more, little bit strange- the 6 seems to be overwritten on the photo. And the Sanchis Brothers use another Rosette for the 1F right now. I think it´s an older model (before 2004), but maybe I´m wrong.

I never played a Raimundo guitar so I can´t tell something about this one.

well, the ebay guitar is from the father (Ricardo Sanchis Carpio) and not the sons (Hermanos Sanchis Lopez).

so of course its different label.

BTW, as far as i know, the father (ricardo) only builts one model since few years. no other models.

the rest and all other models are done by the sons.

Ramzi, isn't there any guitar shop / dealer in your country?

i mean ordering from US, then (maybe!) be dissapointed, because the guitars doesn't suits you (for whatever reason), would be not so good.

yes.l agree with Arash.l also prefer to touch it before l buy.You can get some advices from members what lt doesnt mean you are gonna feel the same thing with them when you play one of those...

About the RSC--you need Tom’s help from La Falseta or Ricardo. There are too many variations of the label to authenticate an RSC and determine its value by searching online.

I don’t think there is anything special about Raimundo—most that I’ve seen listed on ebay are cheap and I wouldn’t buy one.

Have you considered a used Conde EF4? What about the Navarro Reyes for $1,599 used on the GC site? Do a national search for Flamenco to view the listing. http://used.guitarcenter.com/usedgear/index.cfm

This Reyes copy goes for about $3,200 new and you could probably sell it and make a little money if you don’t like it.

I´m not specialist with HSL guitars. But since 2005 the sons take the workshop and labeled their guitars with "Hermanos Sanchis Lopez Hijos dee Ricardo...". Since then Ricardo build only his own model as you said. And on this label you can read: "Ricardo Sanchis Lopez Hnos Sanchis Lopez"-not comparable with the guitars Ricardo build today. It could be a fake. But like Pgh_flamenco said, they are so many labels...

Thank you all for the quick replies. Let me clarify some issues:

1- There are NO guitar shops in Lebanon. So the option of trying before buying is not available here.

2- I will be going to Michigan and Montreal in March and April 2010 for work. Might I be able to find some good guitar shops there to maybe try out some flamenco models / brands?

3- Regarding these two particular guitars (whose links I provided): they belong to a friend who is coming to my country. He is willing to bring one of them for me to buy it. I need to ask him if he agrees that I try it out, and if I don't like it, whether I can REFUSE buying it. This is why I specified these two particular guitars.

Flamenco isn't that popular in the US and you will have to do some research online and then make phone calls to make sure a trip to a music store will be worth your time. Chicago or Detroit might be good places to look. You might also find a nice boutique in an off the beaten path location. If you had a lay over in NY or DC I think that would be your best chance to try out a selection of flamenco guitars.

If you post where you will be staying in Michigan maybe someone on this site can tell you where to go in that area. I really like the idea of checking NY for a guitar. If you have everything planned ahead of time a short stay might yield a great guitar and you can have it shipped to your destination. If you pay with a credit card you can dispute the charge if there are any issues. Just some ideas…
