Pimientito -> Piezo pick ups (Jan. 13 2010 9:48:47)

I think this is my fist post in the Luthiery section but I was hoping someone could help me out.

A friend of mine has a cheap flamenco guitar that they want to electrify. Basically he plays a lot of rumba and doesnt want a bug that will fall off. He is looking to put a system in the guitar that runs to a button in the bottom of the body that can plug into a mixing desk.

The problem here is price. There are some good systems out there if you spend enough. I have an electrified Alhambra which works brilliantly but the internal system was very expensive. What I am looking for is a piezo strip and maybe something else that will pick up some body sound for golpes that can be fitted for under $100. Obviously the sound isnt going to be amazing but to be honest the player is only doing a few rumba gigs and doesnt need to sound like vicente amigo.

Does such a thing exist? Can some of you have fitted pick ups to guitars recommend which pick ups to go for and which to avoid? Links to any sites would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Pimientito

I think you said it yourself!
The best would be that he would play the first 2 gigs without amplification or with the simple microphone they already have, and then with the money earned he may buy something better.

Hey Pim!
I think, I have something for You!
I bought a pick up by Kremona, that one has to put under the strings, no drilling no cutting, simple:

As for the sound, it's far better than You'd expect from a thing that cost 10.000 HUF, which is like 54 USD! I bought mine in a local shop, and is a little bit different than that on the picture. It has to be a newer version of it, as it's even smaller at the part You have to plug the cable in. I'll try to attach a foto of it.

I prefer it' sound over the built-in pickups i've tried so far as all of them had some 'nasal' effect and were too sharp - like playing very close to the bridge... This just needed a little EQ, and that's all.

Besides the Carpio negra I use it on, I've also tried at the shop, on a very cheap Yamaha C40, and sounded good as well.

Here's the foto. Of course it weights nothing

Harold says look at Fishman for a cheap piezo. I'd look it up for you but it's late so do your own google [8|]

also my first post in luthier section !

I had a fishman in an old crappy classical. It sounded ok and it was super easy to install. It was a micro thin strip that went under the saddle. No gluing or anything.

I think that the Fishman might be the answer.
I had thought of this but wondered if there were any alternatives for this price.
How much is a really good system now for electrifying a flamenco guitar?
More than $200 I suppose

Hey Beno .That looks interesting too.
As i say im looking at a cheap option and if it sound less nasal than a normal piezo it might be just the thing. The web site has no way to purchase one though.

Does this pick up any body sounds though? The problem is that it needs to be able to pick up golpes and not just the strings.
