This recording kicks ass!

I'm listening to it over and over again at the time.

Riqueni is a great musician. I've learned the guajira from that recording. Really hard..I also play his tangos from Mi tiempo and am right this minute I'm learning his alegrías - Y enamorarse.

I think his stuff is about as hard as it gets. There are some spots in each of them I have to work on regularly, and when performing them I usually flub a little at each of those parts.

Keep listening, he's got some really unique ideas.

I hope he hits the studio again, he's so creative and unique.

Grisha -> RE: rafael riqueni flamenco (Jul. 4 2010 23:10:31)

I have been listening to this album a lot lately. Riqueni is one of the most unique composers in flamenco. I love how close he stays to tradition, while using some very modern harmonies. And who of today's guitarists (aside from Paco Pena) records the whole album with no back up instruments and includes siguiriyas, solea, tarantas, minera and rondena? I think I am just going to learn the whole album. I like his stuff so much that I learned the garrotin from Mi tiempo in just one day. Can't stop playing it now.

Rafael Riqueni is an amazing guitarist who is often overlooked or forgotten, I guess because he is not around on the "scene" much these days.

I enjoyed your videos of his guajiras, hope you post some more videos of Riqueni's music, especially as he is not around to play it!

Does anyone know where to buy this?

It seems out of print - is piracy the only option here?

If so can someone share it with me, I'll buy you another one of his albums to get him some money.

Ramirez -> RE: rafael riqueni flamenco (Apr. 8 2011 14:34:21)

Hey Orson, I've PM'd you.

All of the above and more ! ! ! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rafeal Riqueni is so under rated , he is to far under the radar for somone so talented , even tho his stuff is availible his new original falsetas are sublime and as good as anybodys .I wish he would perform in this country, I hear he has on going health problems , (don,t we all at our age ! ) but just to see and hear up close would be a lesson to last a life time . Anyone know if he is active anywhere this summer?

Don Dionisio -> RE: rafael riqueni flamenco (May 11 2011 16:25:52)

One of my favorites, from a compositional stand-point,
is the one he composed and played with Jose Maria Gallardo del Rey
'Suite Sevilla' for flamenco and clasical guitar.
I met Riqueni at the 'Carboneria' in 1998 and he told me he
wrote both parts in music notation. If you haven't heard this one,
it is worth the search.

This is absolutely beautiful. Any idea where I can find a recording?

Adam -> RE: rafael riqueni flamenco (May 11 2011 19:25:54)

Alright, now I've also got to ask where to find the score for this :)

Ramón Kailani -> RE: rafael riqueni flamenco (May 13 2011 13:39:06)

Rafael Riqueni is really nice, but it´s a shame that the recordings I have of him have so much reverb. Or maybe it was recorded in a big concert hall (sounds like a cathedral, sometimes out of control)

tmock -> RE: rafael riqueni flamenco (Feb. 3 2012 20:19:58)

Reviving this thread because I just ahold of this album, and it's instantly become one of my favorites. Riqueni can't get enough credit, in my opinion, for his raw talent and the uniqueness of his compositional vision. I hope the new album he's supposedly working on comes out fairly soon.

Oh, and Grisha, your GSI video playing De La Vera on that Gerundino is flipping amazing! Really.

ashod -> RE: rafael riqueni flamenco (Feb. 5 2012 17:46:03)

I love Rafael Riqueni.
He's by far the most poetic guitarist I have ever heard.
You don't get mesmerized by technic or fancy tricks when you watch/listen to him.
You just enjoy the trip he's offering with his profound music.

Olé Rafael!

maltess -> RE: rafael riqueni flamenco (Sep. 9 2013 8:41:21)

I think Riqueni is the best

Erik van Goch -> RE: rafael riqueni flamenco (Sep. 9 2013 11:39:23)

He's one of my personal favorites. He probably was one of the very first not restricting modern lines in Soleares to the falsetas only.

Funny -- I literally did the exact same thing with his Garrotin!! Love that piece!
