Skai -> Juan Serrano DVDs (Sep. 28 2004 12:16:58)

Hey everyone,

Does anyone have Juan Serrano's Flamenco Guitar DVD? Maybe you guys could give me some info on the content in the DVD and whether it's good for learning flamenco or not.. And what about Juan Serrano: The Flamenco Tradition DVD?

Here are the links:

Skai,

Juan Serrano was a terrific player with very fast picado on his early recordings, but I have one of his videos, Juan Serrano 'Flamenco Guitar'and it's changed days now. Not very well laid out and not too helpful.

I'd recommend; Merenge de Cordoba for a great all round introduction to flamenco.

Good luck

I agree that Serrano's earlier recording are fantastic, but with age we do all slow a bit. As a teacher Serrano is excellent, he was my teacher many years ago, and brought the love a flamenco to my heart. I am forever greatful to him for that. I heard that he is now back in Seville, which is a long way from Fresno, CA. He does have a few books out, but I do think personal instruction is the best. If you can find someone in your area, and if they have DVD recording capabilities it seems to be the best.

Good luck

Hi Skai

I believe Juan has a teaching DVD out grades 1 to 5, (and grades 6 to 8, standard coming out soon)...His stuff is playable and effective, I have the tomatito video, merenge de cordoba, and Paco Serrano, and more..

But I have found Juams Videos and Dvds exceptional and faily easy to pick up and then make your own style. His Arte Flamenco book is ok for the traditional stuff and as a base for all the DVD's he has out now and it is cheap too...

This is only my opinion, hope this helps
