"President George W. Bush on Wednesday kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month by attending a flamenco performance at the White House, while Democrats charged that under his administration Latinos have had "little to celebrate."
Spanish flamenco dancer and choreographer Joaquin Cortes made his debut in the White House at an event where Bush touted his administration's achievements in improving the lot of the country's largest minority group.
The celebrations hailing Hispanic culture in the United States are a reflection of the "diversity and strength of our great democracy," the president said.
Bush said he is proud to call Latinos "Americans" and "proud to be their president."
But according to Hispanic Democratic lawmakers, the Bush administration has given the 40 million Latinos living in the United States little to celebrate."

Kate,
Exactly the same as politicians in the UK.
They just love the ethnic minorities, so long as they don't live in the same neighbourhood. LOL!
I was worried about Hurricane Ivan hitting Cuba hard.
Thank God they got of lightly.
Who would have helped them?
Politics is about scheming, suppressing the heart and applying the brain to defeat your rival and remain victorious.
Flamenco is about loosening the heart and using the brain to achieve higher things based on a common humanity IMO.

We would have.
Canada has no issue with Cuba and helps out regularly, even to the loud objections from our cousins to the south (when the U.S. isn't blocking our shipments there). My inlaws have been going every year for the last 17 years and every year they bring two large extra suitcases full of common items that are hard for people to get their (school supplies, clothes, shoes, soaps and other odds and ends). All the locals know them and are very appreciative. There's a huge difference between Havana, Santiago de Cuba, and the country side. They stay in the country side and not the huge resorts. Plus, there are an aweful lot of Italian and German interests there so I suspect there would be at least some help from the Europeans.

There apparently is a biotech firm there that has developed cancer treatment drugs that not only stop certain cancers, but force them into remission. The U.S. is blocking their efforts by keeping those drugs from getting approval. Ah there I go again......don't get me started.....[:@]

Come on, Ron, I'm a company guy now (at least while Simon is gone). Actually, a tres is a Cuban guitar with 3 courses (a course is a doubled string). It's used to play the montuno, a rhythmic pattern. You've heard these before if you've ever heard salsa, the piano plays that part nowadays.
