Hello fellow guitarists. My name is Kris and i live in australia. I have a few videos on you tube playing some of my flamenco guitar ideas. Some of you i will know from there.

I was a bit apprehensive about joining this forum as it seems quite bitchy. Some of the posts i have read through were pretty hurtful towards people?? Anyway, I thought it would be potentially fun to share ideas with you guys, Cheers

JohnWalshGuitar -> RE: New to this forum (Nov. 28 2009 2:33:32)

Welcome Kris,
I love your vids on youtube. Great stuff! Super cool Buleria in RondeƱa tuning.
I'm relatively new here myself too. Don't worry about any crazy posts. Just don't get involved. Its all good, as they say across the water. There are some truly great aspects to this forum; great players, aficionaos, in-depth recording advice, and lots more.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on all things flamenco and hopefully more vids from you too!
regards,
John

KMMI77 -> RE: New to this forum (Nov. 28 2009 2:56:29)

Thanks John! I like your vids as well.

John O. -> RE: New to this forum (Nov. 28 2009 2:59:25)

Hi Kris,

it can get quite bitchy here as on a lot of forums. Don't take it seriously. There's a rotten apple here and there that comes and goes, but we're all generally nice people and you can learn a lot on here.

Regards,
John

Ailsa -> RE: New to this forum (Nov. 28 2009 3:17:53)

Hi Kris,

Welcome! Interested to see your stuff on youtube. Loved the tanguillos.

Yeah John is right. If there's some stressed out people posting, just move to another thread. Usually goes away after a while![:D]

Most folks are supportive so feel free to share your playing or ideas.

Much of a flamenco scene where you are?

Ailsa

'scuse me, who are you calling bitchy?![8D]

only kidding you mate, [:D][:D] i know what you mean, some people seem a bit harsh sometimes...

it can be tricky, how do you challenge something or someone without adding fuel to the fire? I know it's best to just walk away, but sometimes you just get caught up in something or it gets out of hand before you realise what's going on. You still have the option to just walk away though....

but don't worry about it, most of the time it's pretty laid back[:)]

KMMI77 -> RE: New to this forum (Nov. 28 2009 3:25:15)

There are a few guitarists around. We all play together at different times. Lot's of dance students but no singers. I kind of enjoy doing my own thing. I have a day job and a few regular gigs with another guy. Are you in the UK? I spent a few years living between the UK and spain.

Ailsa -> RE: New to this forum (Nov. 28 2009 3:31:58)

Yeah I am in UK, about 30 miles west of London. To meet other people interested in flamenco I either travel to London or 30 miles in the other direction to Oxford. But it could be worse, I know that!

In London there are quite a few dance schools and guitar teachers, and just a handful of singers. They are a rare breed here.

I have a day job too [&o] but mustn't grumble because lots of people don't. Just that it gets in the way of guitar practice. [;)]

Glad you made it here. I hope you have alot to contribute!

Ailsa -> RE: New to this forum (Nov. 28 2009 3:43:57)

I know!! But the Norwich Pena isn't that far from you is it? And you come up to London often.

I'd really like to have a local flamenco buddy. There aren't that many people I know that I can witter on endlessly about flamenco to without their eyes glazing over. Actually you might qualify[:D] - let me know next time you and Bridget are coming up to London and I'll come and meet you!

mark indigo -> RE: New to this forum (Nov. 28 2009 5:14:18)

well, Norwich is about 35 miles away, about an hours drive, and Cambridge is about the same in the other direction. London is about 3 hours away, so it's not too bad.

How long does it take you to get to London or Oxford?

We are going to a show in London tomoro night at Costa Dorada. link here; http://www.ilusionflamenca.co.uk/shows_events.htm#cuadro_de_jerez

Welcome Kris (it was about time you did... [;)])

I had viewed your work on youtube before and found your ideas quite interesting and enjoyable. Partcularly, I liked the two-guitar-arpeggio'd Solea Por Bulerias (a Ramirez blanca and a Conde naranja???).

With such creativity and talent (and nice instruments), Kris, you ought to participate in the Original Composition Challenge. 'hope you will.

ciao

Ailsa -> RE: New to this forum (Nov. 28 2009 5:35:41)

OK Mark you win! Takes me an hour-ish to get to London, depending on traffic, and 45mins to Oxford.

Yeah I'm in London tomorrow too, but running a guitar course - Guajiras taught by Steve Homes.

What an introduction...

Um.... Kris, I think that was probably one of Doit's jokes btw. He has an off-the-wall sense of humour. You'll get to love it like the rest of us do! [:D][:D]

[&:][&:][&:][&:] Thanks Ailsa...

KMMI77 -> RE: New to this forum (Nov. 28 2009 12:54:55)

[:D] Ha Ha! Thanks! I was playing an orange conde A26 and a pedro maldonado in the solea por buleria vid. I have tried to find my own way of expressing flamenco. My "a liite story" video is my favorite at the moment. It is unconventional in its use of multiple guitar parts but was the only way of achieving the effect i was looking for. It would require about 6 guitarists to play it live. Lol! As far as the challenge goes, if i have inspiration to write something that has meaning to me and fits the criteria between now and then, I will be happy to send it in. Maybe i need to make some trouble for myself. I usually find inspiration and get my best ideas at those times. Lol!

fevictor -> RE: New to this forum (Nov. 28 2009 17:21:53)

I just checked out your videos, great stuff! I hope to play like that someday and I look forward to your future uploads. Welcome, its good to have you here!

Vic
