hey hey hey,
does anybody know of any free cante lessons or resources available online? everything is very guitar-centric in this online flamenco world.

thanks mark!

i should have been a bit more specific. i was looking for some buleria letras and accompanying audio clips, maybe something about technique... something along those lines.

listen to as much recorded cante as you can, these days many cd's have the letras printed. Listen repeatedly, imitate it as best you can. A good starting point is alegrias, the scale is much more familiar to the western ear.

Then go to Spain and hook up with a teacher whose singing you love and pay him or her for hourly lessons. Flamenco cante is very difficult, is taught one-on-one. The quarter-tones are difficult to even hear at first say nothing about duplicate, and it's a slow painstaking process, so be patient with yourself.

hey veet,
great tips!

but... i should have been even MORE specific! this is for the dance teacher who wants to start singing some letras in class so the dancers can know what it's like. i will not even try to attempt cante.

do you sing, veet?

yes, I do sing, often for dance classes.

Dance teachers I know often use the Solo Compas series of cd's most of which have the letras printed.

Doesn't fit the categories of 'free' or 'online' but they're widely available
There used to be a site called Guia Telematica de Flamenco that had audio samples of over 100 palos, but I can't find it any more.

Suerte-
V
