XXX -> Recommendation for Webcam (Nov. 7 2009 2:59:23)

I need a decent camera for skype lessons!
But one that is able to record in proper speed (30fps) so that one can see my hand movements in time, as i want to record myself at home also. It should be less than 50 Euros. Any tips?

There aren't many good ones out there but I would recommend two. They will probably cost a bit more than 50 Euros though.

Microsoft LifeCam Cinema - Has a mount that allows the camera to point at various angles. The lens is wide-angle and so it allows your viewers to see what is going on with BOTH your left and right hands when playing the guitar. Resolution can go to HD so you have better clarity. Performance in low light is good but Logitech is the best at this. Microphone performance is good. Colors are vivid.

Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 - Performs well in low light conditions with fast frame rates (but with washed-out colors). Microphone performance is good and a little better than the Microsoft LifeCam. Resolution can also go to HD. I can't remember if the lens was as wide-angled as the LifeCam. What I didn't like about the Pro 9000 was that its mount was designed so that the camera sits on top of the monitor facing squarely forward (hard - if not impossible - to tilt the camera slightly to the left or to the right).

I had the Pro 9000 and returned it. I now use the LifeCam Cinema and really like it.

The Pro 9000 actually will "Pan" side to side, but you dont do that physically.

Its in the preferences. I think its the "Tilt" or "pan" tab. You can use a virtual joystick with the mouse to point the camera wherever you want.

It always pays to read the manual[:D]

I have the Pro 9000 Deniz, and i think it would work great for our upcoming
lesson![:)]
I think its as good as you'll get for under 100 bucks.

Yes, I noted that feature. But I prefer to put the webcam on the edge of my widescreen monitor so it captures my room (and the fretboard) at an angle. The Pro 9000 mount makes that impossible.

Still, it's a good webcam and probably the best in low-light conditions.

Ok i will have a look at 9000. Can it stand on its own, on a table etc., or do i have to mount it on the monitor?
It would be cool if it was possible to pick up only the video from the cam but the sound from the mic.

Oh Todd, is that the cam u used to record the Roomtest?

Should be no problem with the light i have 5 different light sources (sun excluded) in my 20m² room [:D]
