newmenco -> Repairing cracks, question on how to (Nov. 6 2009 21:03:17)

Hi again. Second project.

I've got a Conde flamenco. It has a few cracks. [:o]

I feel good about repairing most of the cracks. Meaning, I can get some glue in the crack, clamp it, cleat it, etc.

There is one crack in the back that I can't close...not sure what to do about it yet. I'm tempted to cleat it and call it good. It's about three inches long, and 1/64th wide. I don't have any cypress to make a sliver to fill it.

The big question is----should I stabilize the relative humidity of the guitar before I start the repairs? Or does it matter? [8|]

Sorry if this is a junior question.

Thanks.

Repairing cracks is absolutely senior questions[:D]

What I would do:

Stabilize the guitar fro a while withe around 50% humidity and see how open the crack is. If relatively close, glue and clamp, add some cleats. If to open for that, get some cypress (not that difficult to get), make a sliver and glue, maybe without cleats

good luck, keep us updated, evt with a photo.

Anders

Ps, dont paint it black please[8D]
