OK...Your starter for ten...[:D]

a) What was the very first (non-rumba) Flamenco record to feature a cajon?

b) What was the very first (non-rumba) Flamenco record to feature electric bass?

c) What was the very first Flamenco record to feature electronic keyboard or synth?

cheers,

Ron

I know it will be wrong... but let´s try:

a) Paco de Lucia: Solo quiro caminar with Rubem Dantas on Cajon
b) Paco de Lucia: Fuente y Caudal (the bass on Entro dos aguas)
c) Camaron: La leyenda del tiempo

stratos13 -> RE: Flamenco Pub Quiz (Nov. 5 2009 4:01:32)

I have heard that Juan Carmona was the first to bring the cajon in flamenco. But it may be completely wrong.
Anyway...
I know Morao's answer b is wrong (entre dos aguas is a rumba). For the rest i agree.

Kate -> RE: Flamenco Pub Quiz (Nov. 5 2009 4:14:37)

It was definitely Rubem Dantes that introduced the cajon to flamenco, he picked it up in Peru and used it when he was playing/recording with Paco De Lucia. Amazing how it caught on so fast that it is almost a staple part of flamenco show these days.

Morao -> RE: Flamenco Pub Quiz (Nov. 5 2009 4:44:18)

hm, of course Entro dos aguas is a rumba...but Fuente y caudal isn´t a rumba record (like Katema or Gypsy Kings records)... I thougth it was meant so.

I would imagine that it was a Paco record with the first E-Bass. I think the first record Carles Benavent played with Paco was Solo quiro Caminar, 1981 or so.

Andy Culpepper -> RE: Flamenco Pub Quiz (Nov. 5 2009 5:32:26)

I think A and B are the same, Camaron's Como el Agua (kinda rumbaish but officially a Tangos) in 1981.

For c I'm going with Morao's guess but it might also be something by the Carmonas..

edit: I think by "record" you mean one song?

bursche -> RE: Flamenco Pub Quiz (Nov. 5 2009 7:42:58)

I'd guess the E-bass appeared first on "Almoraima"
Concerning the cajón I'd guess "Solo Quiero Caminar" as well
Concerning the keyboard I'd guess "Leyenda del Tiempo" as well

Yes.....either released as a commercial single or a track on an album. (but not a rumba.)

Ron

bursche -> RE: Flamenco Pub Quiz (Nov. 5 2009 8:08:48)

Prof. dr.phil. hc. would have stated right from the beginning that EVERY innovation was made by SanPaco

Andy Culpepper -> RE: Flamenco Pub Quiz (Nov. 5 2009 8:16:02)

forgot about Almoraima [:)]

duende -> RE: Flamenco Pub Quiz (Nov. 5 2009 10:44:06)

Bass "Almoraima"

CAJON "Solo quiero caminar" BUT on the "rito el toque" DVD Tomatito plays Tangos with cajon, does anyone know what year that is? maybe its the before "solo quiero"

Keyboard "Leyenda del tiempo"

mrMagenta -> RE: Flamenco Pub Quiz (Nov. 5 2009 11:52:41)

Are you sure about the keyboard? Deigo de Morons outer space / flamenco thing was originally released 1977, and Sabicas recorded his 'Rock Encounter' in 1970 it features piano and organ, my guess is hammond organ, I haven't heard it but I would like to :-) Of course, one could argue these aren't really flamenco albums they do however feature regular palos.

NormanKliman -> RE: Flamenco Pub Quiz (Nov. 5 2009 23:28:15)

Good observation mrMagenta, I was going to mention the Sabicas/Beck recording, but I'd forgotten about Diego's album! I may be wrong and it probably wouldn't count anyway, but I think there's a recording of Caracol singing to Arturo Pavón's organ accompaniment.

Morao -> RE: Flamenco Pub Quiz (Nov. 9 2009 6:37:42)

And the answer, Ron!?[;)]
