Sadly, a lousy guitar will still be lousy however you tie the strings. Also a great guitar will remain great. Why this obsession with strings - look at the bigger picture http://paws.kettering.edu/~drussell/guitars/hummingbird/mode4.gif - here are the aspects that you have to get right. Rob
