New Invention?

We've all seen those pianos where the keys light up to show you where to put your fingers, well! I've been looking for a guitar that would do the same thing. Simply put your Tomatito CD into the sound hole and the fret board starts to light up.
What do you think and would anyone like to buy shares?

You won't get it lighting up in real time from a CD but this is driven by standard MIDI files. OK, it's not a flamenco guitar.

Lordy knows how it figures which fret from a MIDI file. There are probably 6 ways to play the same note around a 5 fret gap (plus open tuning)!

One driven by TabEdit would be cool.

Already been done, but I think it would have serious issues with real-time. We designed such a device in the 80s, to take polyphonic sound in real-time and spit out a score and MIDI.

It took a custom 32-bit AMD chipset array out of a guided missile to work at all after a fashion.

Jim,
It only works off MIDI files not audio files.
MIDI files are sets of instructions given to an Electronic Synthesizer to produce sounds.
Things like Instrument, Note, Attack, Duration, Decay etc, so the Tomatito track would have to first be translated into accurate MIDI language...a major feat!!
The MIDI synths I've heard are very sophisticated now and can produce quite stunning bowed string, brass and woodwind sounds.
Plucked instruments, not so good and I think there would be many problems to be solved to produce a convincing Flamenco sound.
However, MIDI is a very interesting technology.

I guess I'm thinking about the way they can do that universal tranlation thing in Star Treck, now that's got to be really complicated right? I mean all those extra terrestrials we've never met before and they just arrive on the Enterprise and the ship's computer can translate what they say into English.
Now if they can do that, surely they can knock up a bit of software to get tab from a Tomatito CD?

"The Amazing Slow Downer" is good but I prefer "Transcribe!", available from http://www.seventhstring.com/. A useful feature is that it analyses the audio and displays the pitch on a piano keyboard display. Also it's available for Mac and Linux.
