What a keen eye, Orsonw. I compared the pic posted by stratos with your link and the details of the tuners match well. Quite similar to Fustero, but it is now clear they are not.
My point was simply that it would have been odd to have expensive Tuners spent on this instrument, and such enrichment could possibly be a prior owner's whim. You have resolved the issue, Gotoh (generally good machines, anyway).
I also agree with your view, that "a great guitar doesn't need to be expensive and many expensive guitars are not good" (I had my share to learn that lesson!!)
