kozz -> Serrana by Melchor de Marchena (Sep. 16 2009 0:35:51)

Hello,
I've put this part by Melchor de Marchena overhere:

Does anyone know if this is the same Serrana as Alain Faucher has transcribed in Melchor de Marchena - El duende gitano?

Yes, that's the song in the book. It's the one I like best too and learned it first. You can get a cassette from Affedis with all the songs in the book.

poor alain i remember the days i did have a mastercard , and i got him to copy like 8 tapes of things for me , worked him to death, he was great with his time .

hi
i'm also working on melchor de marchena's book, for some palos i'd like to hear melchor's version, the hispavox LP "guitarra gitana" isn't avaiable anymore and i can't find these tracks on his CD-compilations - any chance to hear these tracks anywhere?

Michel,
I bought the album via iTunesĀ±
Melchor de Marchena - Centenario de Su Nacimiento 1907-2007

Most of them are on it, except from the Tientos en Petenera I believe

Thanx very much kozz
Faucher's Transcriptions are great, do you already got the book?
i would like to hear the siguiriya, because i don't really get the sense or the feeling of it. i learned his tanguillo de cadiz by ear, listening the CD many times, and it's a lot easier than faucher's complex (but very good) notation of the whole piece, maybe i'll also substitute some rasgueos with more common/easier amii-rasgueos... anyway have much fun with the book!

No probs.
Its a nice quality if you play a piece just by listening to it, I really envy people who can do that. I am miles away from that, but hey I am only touching the strings for almost a year now, who knows in about 10 years :)

Also the pieces from MDM are way above my head, but I can pick a few licks and time will tell when I am ready for it.

I like the Faucher transcriptions, and definately gonna get some more....Perhaps the Danzas Arabes will be the next

you're not alone, i'm also "fighting" with the other pieces because i don't practice at all since weeks, i improvise the whole time with a rough and ugly tone, ...muy flamenco! [:D]
i also got the Danzas Arabes, a great book, but more difficult than melchor de marchena!
I invited el payo humberto to visit me as soon he comes back to Europe
uhuuu... the strings will smoke again, i'm looking forward!

Thats just great man!
I love to meet him too. A great person with love for the art.

Have you seen the video where he explains "the-thumb-of-Melchor" and that tricky index finger?

That's the way I also play most of the time. Learned a new bar from a falsetta and try to incorporate in something which I can play and try to expand it step by step.

that's the best way to improve your playing without loosing motivation.
it's good to find a compromise between strictly learning (reading, memorizing, improving techniques) and playing "free", i mean creating a natural flow, a mirror of moods without thinking too much about possible mistakes, this works very well, especially when we didn't play for a few days and simply enjoy the sound of guitar with a glass of wine (like our Maestro[;)])
