Stu -> learning Punta del faro! (Aug. 26 2009 8:47:10)

ok so i should probably be learning challenge material but i learnt the first half (i hope) and decided to look at Pacos buleria.

quick question that someone may be able to answer instantly.....

is there anything going on with the compas at the start?? i know there is lot of talk about not using twelve count but, but what count does the first chord come in on???? I'm studying fauchers tab and the first note is a rest with golpe? I'd assumed this would be 12! is there half compas thing happening here?? or is that golpe just on 6??

Stu

Hi Stu!

Good luck amigo.

You should learn "El Tempúl" just as a practice piece first...

That'll make it a lot easier. [;)]

cheers,

Ron

I think the C chord lands on 12 and the starting chord (A) starts on 9 &..

But some how it doesnt feel so important. I you find the starting 12 or 1 or how ever you count it you can go backwards till the start and find out the numbers.

...or "play the way it sounds" is a good advice. Sometimes your intelect turns everything into a mess..

I always played along with the recording when I wasn't sure about compás.

It's always better trying to feel what you're doing rather than knowing what you doing when it comes to compás.

However, the first golpe (on the studio recording from "El Duende Flamenco") seems to be on beat 6.

Half compas. And there are more half compases in the piece, look out. Best thing...FORGET THE 12 count for this and all bulerias. Just feel it all in 6's, always.

thanks guys for your posts..

Ron: learnt some of el tempul before, but will revisit, not actually learning whole of punta, just opening compas and first falseta.

yeah thats what I normally do and indeed did here, only to find the first golpe was not what i thought would be twelve which then lead me to think that my starting point for the backwards count was wrong and not actually twelve. which lead to this question..

Ill do that,. My main prob was that wanted to play along using Rons flamenco Master but encountered these half compas probs.

Stu,

It's laid out in "University Challenge" mode, with two rows of 6's.

So the 9 becomes the 3..

And the 4 can be the 10...

That's why the symmetrical layout! (instead of the usual "compás clock" affair)

As I've said before, Flamenco Master is not just a metronome, but a compás analyzer... if you use it right. [;)]

cheers,

Ron

Hi Ron

I have tried using flamenco master but it runs very erratically on my machine and the pulse is quite often inconsistent. I'd actually given up on it but reading your recommendation above think I should give it another go. Any clues on how I might make it run evenly. I am guessing its a sound card issue but I don't have problems with Q base and other sound programs so am unsure.

Ron.M -> RE: learning Punta del faro! (Sep. 8 2009 23:51:27)

Simon,

The main problem is having background applications running on your machine.

Close them all.

You may have programs running there that you are not even aware of. (Adware, Malware etc)

Also it won't work well if you have a browser open and are connected to the Internet.

I'm sure the sound card has nothing to do with it.

cheers,

Ron
