vicentes title track from new album!!

I quite like it, i always like his sound, but why does he make these choices in his vids!

I'm talking about the smile at 2:33!!!!

Check it out and laugh!!!

Well it's probably the vid producer that decides, though I guess he could say no. I didn't mind the 2.33 smile, it was the 1.23 that I didn't like much - a bit creepy I thought!

Simply fantastic tone quality he squeezes out of that guitar!
He practically "moulds" the tone while still sounding muy Flamenco.

cheers,

Ron

You mean the weird head nod he does to that lad?? I guess that's his son??? and he cant dance!!![:D]

I quite like the fact that hes looking older, and fuller in the face, somehow it gives his playing more gravitas or it seems that way

And I dislike 10 camera angles in 3 seconds very much. But all together..Im happy theyre making videos. ^^

This has a distinct kenny g vibe about it,especially the change at 0:54. Between 2:03-2:33 we see the vicente amigo we all know and love. With the exception of this and a few killer shreds hes thrown in to keep his old fans happy, other than that its like taking an elevater to the top floor at the crown casino.

Excellent playing indeed!

We all know that Vicente approaches pop...

I don't mind as loing as there are still parts in which he's showing where his music really comes from.
Vicente composed some of the most difficult stuff I've heard and is a master when it comes to creating melodic compositions that maintain high virtuosity.

I aggree 100%, his first album was so amazing and made such an impression on me when i first heard it. I still remember the day i heard him for the first time. My guitar teacher was playing De Mi Corazon in his car and it was on gitano de lucia.

From that moment he was my favourite guitarist, and i wanted to learn everything from that album(which seemed impossible[:D]and still does[&:][:D]). I did learn morente, callejon de la luna, most of gitano de lucia, some of tio arango and some maestro sanlucar which is a killer....still have a long way to go[8|]

Thats why it is so dissapointing to see tracks like this. He is not even giving us 10% of his virtuosity, when he could be giving us everything and unloading grounding breaking albums like De Mi Corazon onto the world. He has much more than this to give imo.

well thats the thing...we dont have some kind of ownership over his taste or where he wants to go musically..every guitarrist always does his thing...follows his own taste...and sometimes we like it sometimes we dont...we always want them to stay the same but i think a true artist ignores what we want and does what he wants and follows where he is artistically and musically at the time of the album and forces us to go different places with him...sometimes it works and we get there......sometimes it dosent..

i am not as crazy about this album as i am about some of his older ones but it was different times...the earlier ones he was a young "out to prove himself" proove his virtuosity...hungry guitarist...this one is a more laid back humble, older..different time of life and different attitude and feel imo....or it could be us...having heard alot more since...our expectations might have changed..

atleast its what i get from it...i think its very honest and true with his outlook atm...and while i havent given the album as much time as it probably deserves i will one day go back to it and try to understand it more...

for me i think the vicente sound must have been a trend cause sometimes i get bored of the slightly delayed notes and hammer ons and pulloofs and the thick sound..its funny when i think of this album i dont think of 10 tracks of whatever it is i think of one big track...havent heard it in a while again but his style is so personal and unique that its starting to interfear with the different distinct feel each palo should have imo theres less and less distinction between a seguirilla and a tangos or a buleria...just because of his really personal style...this days i prefer more straight ...beats and notes and clear difference in the palos...not sure if i am making any sence lol but i know what i mean

thats the thing about trends...think back to all the pop music and really different bands or sounds...the more different and out the they are the more likely they are that they will one day go out of fashion...the ones that always succed are the ones that are able to reinvent themselfs over and over or the ones that saty midlle of the road and arent too trendy and different ..

personally i would really love to see Vicente reinvent himself in the next album and just step away for the now somewhat predictable Vicente sound...id love to see a different side..i want not be able to say ..."its vicente" without having read who it is....id love to see him stay away from boleros and rumbas for one album...id love to see him visit tradition again a litlle....but then again ...its just what i want [:D][:D]...i am sure he will continue to be himself

and if u are a vicente lover dont get upset...i like vicente very very much ...just discussing..i am not sure if its me changing or he is

its funny for the same reasons that i adored him a few years ago i can now feel that i am slowly starting to go the other way...just like in a relationship...the first thing u notice and love and stands out about a partener its the thing that will slowly drive you up the wall one day [;)]

No your right, sony BMG does[:D][&:][X(]

I know what you are saying about 'his sound' as a fad or craze, it definatly caught on. But the thing is his first album was so ground breaking everyone wanted to sound like him. It wasnt a 'gimmick' as such, it was the real thing...he was the real deal and not a passing fad imo. The reality is when you think of the most famous flamenco guitarists, his name is always high on the list.

Florian -> RE: why does he do it? (Aug. 25 2009 2:36:54)

thats true...i am not speaking for anyone ...just myself...id love to see him explore and continue to reinvent himself or go back to tradition...just something really different...could even be his sound...the way he records and mixes the sound...i dont know....i dont think his last album is bad at all its just soo simillar to his others that it dosent feel new or stand out

perhaps he is under too much pressure to release album after album or do the same flamenco/mainstream guitar albums...u know the kind that works well in a cafe too...but i find myself distanced from it slightly...like i said...for the same reason i used to love him i now am starting to feel a litlle over it...and i guesss the fact that his style is so personal and recognisable..its more obvious

i am sure theres plenty of other guitarists who do the same thing now that they did before but their style dosent stand out as much and its not as obvious, its unfair on him the fact that his style is so unmistakable also makes it seem repetative or predictable ...i am sure that if someone else recorded the same music...with a different style of playing and sound..i would have been a more fair listener...

bursche -> RE: why does he do it? (Aug. 25 2009 5:52:06)

I very much enjoyed Manolo SanlĂșcars "Locura de Brisa y Trino". Recorded with just Manolo's and Isidro's guitars, percussion by Tino di Geraldo and the vioce of Carmen Linares. A nice idea, considering that there had already been a lot of pop in flamenco in 2000.

It was all they needed to create impressive music.

It would be great to hear a similar approach by Vicente: using few instruments and voices, creating a dense atmosphere through great virtuosity.
As you said, Vicente has shown he can do such things.

ivan -> RE: why does he do it? (Aug. 25 2009 11:06:46)

in the shot at 2'23' as stu said, he smiles that way because it is who he is and it is his style. In addition, he was smiling side by side with his son and i guess the producer thought it might be a nice shot. I thought it was.
