Hi all. Im working on JMs fandango de huelva and I have no problem with the basic compas but I have come across a problem and am hoping that anyone with his first book can help me.

At the end of the first arpeggio section I cant figure out the count. I'm under the impression that during the compas the open low E with golpe is always beat 12, but at the end of the arpeggio section this ends up being beat 11 which is really throwing me off.

I hope that this is not too confusing, but if anyone knows this piece and what I'm referring to Id appreciate any help.

Thanks, Vic

I play that piece regularly and I just looked in the book.
Note: there are 2 golpes, one on 11 and one on 12.
Id recommend focusing your attention on the second golpe
to keep up with the beat. If you really cant do it, consider
playing that low E two times for a while (one on 11 and one on 12)
until you get the hang of it- then stop playing the second one.

I appreciate the reply, but I have to say that Im still confused - if you start counting the last arpeggio section starting with 1, when you get to that low E with golpe it is beat 11. I know that in the rest of the compas the short F with golpe is beat 11 and low open E is 12, but it doesn´t seem that way in this part. Oh well, I´ll keep plugging away at it till I get it I guess. Thanks.

which book do you mean?
In "El Arte Flamenco de la Guitarra" he describes two ways to count (p. 61), and according to that, you're on beat 11 because the falseta ends on 14 rather than 12.

Hi Ed, its the Solos Flamencos book grades 0-5.

This is JMs description of how to count.
Hope it helps

Thanks Ed, I think it makes sense now, although this explanation seems a little confusing to me!! All the best. Vic

Maybe you could record a segment of it and upload it here
so we can advise you on it.
