Tonight's edition of 'Guitar Heroes' on BBC4 featured archive footage from 1972 of Paco.
Among the information flashed on-screen was the statement that he uses glue to protect his nails.
For the fledgling flamenco guitarist, the correct procedure is to add layers of super-glue on top of layers of tissue or cigarette paper. Then watch as the treatment gradually eats away the nail.
Somehow I doubt if Paco still uses glue. Does anyone know?

Yes, he uses epoxy (Araldite) and then superglue on top of that. (As of about five years ago).

Sounds not too different from manicurists using layers of acrylic and silk.

I tried acrylics for a few days. Removed them real quick. Made me feel like my nails were going to get peeled of my fingers.

I still use acrylics and have for a year or so. I never could grow any nails and if I did I always had something happen that broke them. It took a while to get used to acrylics and more important, to find someone that new what they were doing. There are all kinds of part-timers out there working salons for extra cash. Even a gal that does my teachers nails for the last 20 years wasn't all that good (she was better than most salon people though due to my teachers influence I think) I found a guy from Vietnam that brought his whole family here to the states to start a salon and he is an expert! I can make these things last for three weeks and they NEVER BREAK or pull off. I will probably die of some weird cancer from them, but I will die playing my guitar and that is what counts. Oh yes, it takes a while getting used to the women sitting pretty in the salon either checking you out for some action or wondering what a real man is doing there like a bull in the China shop. I get a laff every time to myself cause I ride a Harley and look like it and I only get one hand done at half price. http://www.foroflamenco.com/micons/m9.gif

I wonder what the dieticians and dermatologists have to say.
Surely there must be a better way than using industrial strength chemicals.
