Andy Culpepper -> Free guitar!! (Jul. 3 2009 10:32:02)

lol...just had to rave about this a little bit, sorry

I just got a huge upgrade over my crappy Francisco Solera "Flamenco" guitar (really just a poor classical trapped in the body of a flamenco)
For FREE!!!! (basically)

A luthier friend of mine, Richard Cogger, decided to give me his guitar #6 (he's made 19 now) just in exchange for a few lessons. Great luthier and obviously a great guy.

Of course he was still in the fairly early stages of honing his craft when he made this but it still has more Flamenco tone in one string than 10 Francisco Soleras [:D] and a much better setup.

I'm going to commission a new guitar from him probably this fall but this makes me very happy for now. It's a copy of a Ramirez 1a with a cedar top. I'll try to post some recordings soon.

Thanks guys, it actually sounds better than it looks [:D] For some reason the french polish on the top came out a bit blotchy in some places. Maybe he refinished it I don't know.
He actually tried to donate this guitar to a group of nuns, because someone came to him with this story about how the nuns had to play on this horrible guitar etc etc.
But the nuns rejected it because of their vows of poverty[8|][:D]

Here's a picture of the back.

With the guitar I have, people give me free stuff if I just stop playing, or maybe it's my playing and not the guitar...
