Stu -> Solea por bulerias (May 8 2009 4:24:27)

I've been concentrating on getting this under my belt lately, and while I'm doing ok technically, I don't really now whats happening compas wise. basically, my problem here is I have some solea por bul loops but don't know what count they start on. where accents fall etc.

any help?

I can upload the loop if you want, or if anyone else has some good ones, thatd be great

Hey Stu,

I've never played it but I do dance it. I count it just like Solea and bulerias (funnily enough!) starting on 12, accents 12,3,6,8,10

Think I've got some loops at home, will take a look when I get back.

do you play alegrias ?

think of the compas as a slow alegrias..like the compas keeps wanting to run towards alegrias and u are forcing it to stay back a litlle bitt, the feel, volume, dynamics and chords are like buleria and the compas and accenting like a slow alegrias.....[8|] all this duende talk is making me talk like a wa*ker lol

yeah just upload the loop

The solea por bulerias “Compas and Guitar” clip on this site is really helpful. The music is pretty much textbook, and clock makes for a nice visual aid.

As far as accents go, 7 & 8 seems to be just as common as 6 & 8.

The trickiest thing for me in getting the hang of solxbul was that, guitarwise, some of the phrases you’ll play will start on 12 and some will start on 1. I know that’s not exclusive to solxbul, but in this case I found it particularly hard to navigate that change in feels when I started learning it.

Do you know how to play solea???? and can follow any compas loops of that? And also bulerias? If you can do both of those rhythms, the accents and stuff should be quite obvious.

thats cool so maybe learning the solea/ bulerias and then jump on to alegrias and solea por bulerias is a decent challenge for beginners moving on to intermediate.

M.Cordoba has some fair compas for all the mention dance forms, pretty stock standard stuff.

complexties lie in changing the beats i guess-- always confuses me , i mean keeping the accents going strong to create a good groove.

hi,

thanks for your replies, the main prob I was having was with the loop but I solved it as soon as I posted, (typical!) and now everything makes sense.

thanks for the link srshea, that looks like a good resource
