Hey all,

So with a new album out so far only in Spain (it may or may not be Vicente's), I'd like to actually own it. What have people found is the best (cheapest, but also speedy and reliable) site for buying Spanish CDs to ship to the States?

Flamenco Connection is definitely the way to go, if you’re in the U.S.. I’ve never ordered a CD from overseas; never had to.

They’re supposed to be getting a shipment out of customs today that should contain some new releases, including the new Macanita (about which I’ve been pestering them daily) and most likely the new Amigo.

Well, it ain’t pretty, but 29 clams tends to be the usual for new releases at Flamenco Connection (non-new stuff tends to fall in the 18-23 dollar range), and that, compared to she shipping rates from esflamenco and flamenco-world and such, not to mention the wait involved as your CD slowly makes its way across the Atlantic, still makes F. Conn. the best choice, generally. I dunno, Amigo’s a big enough name that you might be able to track the new one down via Amazon or some other, cheaper source…..

I always wait to make large orders when I get my stuff from F. Conn. so I can consolidate on the shipping, which helps takes the sting out of the overall high prices of import CDs.

I have dealt with Flamenco World with very good success. They do the conversion to dollars for you and add a bit for the transaction charge (or at least they did in the past). Fast shipping as well.

I have been hesitant to buy off Flamenco Connection web site, as it was unsecured. I don’t know if it is now. They are good reliable folks that carry a great selection.

I’ve heard others mention having reservations about ordering from Flamenco Connection on account of their less than stellar website. It’s understandable, and their site is pretty crude, but I want to encourage anyone out there with similar misgivings to not let that dissuade them from buying from FC. They are, as Patrick mentioned, good, reliable folks, and a totally legit operation, late-20th century website, notwithstanding.

I’ve made numerous orders with them via their site over the past few years and have never had any problems, but they’ve also got a toll-free number by which you can order over the phone if anyone’s squeamish about on-line security.

One thing I do recommend when ordering from them is to always send them an email, or call them, to check and see if what you want is in stock. The world of flamenco distribution is seems to be a bit flaky, and things go in and out of print, or in and out of stock all the time, so it’s best to check first.

I second everything Adam has said. To avoid ordering on-line, I make my selections on the website as if I am going to place an order. Then once I have the total (including shipping), I print it out and give them a call to be sure my selections are in stock. They will usually put them aside for me. Then I purchase a money order at my bank and send it to them with the printed order form. A bit of a hassle but avoids any risks.

I didn't know about the new La Macanita CD. I love her stuff. Do you know what guitarist(s) she's using?
