itoprover -> VERY low bridge (Apr. 25 2009 12:02:45)

Yesterday I played a flamenco guitar that has a VERY low bridge and a VERY high saddle (I mean the saddle is protuding above the bridge approx. 5-6mm ). Overall setup is OK - string height is 3mm at 12th fret and 9mm at the bridge. Never seen this design before - is it normal?
One more question to luthiers - what is the maximum string height at the bridge for a flamenco guitar?

Thanks

my knowledge is from my steel string acoustic.
With a very high saddle, there will be a force pushing the saddle towards the neck of the guitar, and that force can cause damage to the bridge causing it to warp or crack.

not sure what it does on a flamenco guitar tho..

itoprover, is your avatar a cat having an enormous boner and a rucksack or a cat holding a guitar? [:D]

Itoprover.

What you say doesnt sound to good. If my calculations are right, the bridge itself will be 3 -4mm according to your numbers. Is that correct

Thats VERY thin. 5 -6 mm is thin. The saddle shouldnt be more than some 3-4mm max above the bridge. If higher, it might cause stress and wear out the saddle slot.
9mm stringheight is ok. I dont like it higher. Some players dont rellay care and some are very histerical about the string height at the bridge

it looks very thin - I didn't actually measure it but the bridge itself is not protruding much above the soundboard
