I was in Paracho last week (for the second time this year). I bought two guitars from Benito Huipe and one from Salvador Castillo. I drove for 10 straight hours to return to my home in Puerto Vallarta. I used the libre (free) road through the mountain towns of Michoacan. There in no problems near Paracho. Like most information about Paracho on this site and others, the comments are inaccurate. A person is perfectly safe to drive from Guadalajara or Morelia to Paracho.

Saved roughly 40% on the Salvador Castillo guitar. I met him, and he played several flamenco pieces for me. Nice man, nice town, nice trip.

Hi folks,

I realize this is an old thread but does anyone know the active email and mailing address of a luthier named Abel Garcia Lopez? Thank you.

It's been a few years since I corresponded with him about the spruce/Brazilian guitar I bought from him, but the email address I have is

abel_garcialopez@yahoo.com

At one time I had his street address and telephone number--I will look around to see if I still have them. I believe he speaks and writes serviceable English, though all our correspondence and conversation were in Spanish.

At the moment I am taking a break from practicing the guitar he made for me. Of the four classicals I have, it is the one I play the most.

You might try trilogyguitars.com, who have sold new instruments by Garcia, or James Greenberg at zavaletas-guitarras.com, a dealer who has traveled to Paracho a number of times.

Here's the info I have for Abel Garcia. It was current about five years ago. He also has a Facebook page. You could send him a message that way.

Abel Garcia Lopez

Tel #: 52-(452) 5 02 39

Fax#: 52-(452) 5 08 73

Street address:

Guerrero 283

C.P. 60250

Paracho, Michoacan, Mexico

If you are heading to Paracho, Google Maps doesn't show the street name for Guerrero. As I recollect, it is the first north-south street to the west of Independencia, which is the main street, but Paracho is a small town and anyone could give you directions. If you want to visit Abel, I would suggest making an appointment by telephone in advance.
