Gummy -> LEarning/Remembering new falsetas (Mar. 28 2009 7:44:18)

Hi,
Do you guys think it helps when learning new parts to practice without looking at the frets? I see several great player only glance at the fretboard while playing. Do you guys prectice early not looking or do you look until you get comfortable with the part then try to not look?

i spent (and still do) a lot of time practicing in front of the monitor reading tab and after a while you just don't look anymore because you can feel where every fret is, regardless of capo position...
however when i'm playing with no tab, for dance or for a performance, i find myself looking at the fretboard when the tricky parts come...it's just to make sure not to mess up...
i think it's a good habit to learn not to look, it helps to concentrate on the "how" rather than the "what"...

To the initial question:

No if you learn new falsetas, you have to watch the board. Plaing without watching the board comes from alone later.
