Take it from someone who spends most of his time doing science and math (and has a tendency to over-analyze everything): "rationalizing" the compás probably isn't the best use of your time if you want to groove to it better. My teacher kept telling me the same thing a lot of people are saying here - it's all about feeling the rhythm, not thinking about it. Hard, I know, but go with it. Play along to a compás track. Listen - a LOT - and do palmas/foot tapping along. Hell, even listen to a compás track as you're sleeping if you want. I tried it a bit, it probably did something.
