Oh man, I so hate this

Here a guitar god gives us a 10 second lesson, with a little "rasgearrrrdo" at the end just to "mix things up a little bit"

"Flamenco allows you a lot of diversity and flexability [sic], meaning you have plenty of room to get creative!"

... idiot [:(]

Deep and interesting question and you have a point, amigo. OK, you got me. This is the playing I am reduced to after way too many beers. Sounds really spanishy, no?[:D]

JasonMcGuire -> RE: How to Play Flamenco Guitar: Creativity (Mar. 11 2009 12:34:27)

He lives nearby me in Concord. He has threatened to blow the heads off of guitarists like ToddK and I who have asked him legitimate questios about his calling what he does flamenco. I keep thinking he might show up at one of my gigs...... I will have to pull a Quick Draw McGraw "El Kabong" thing on him.

Do you mean blow your head off like with a shotgun, or blow your mind with his awesome playing? Not sure which would be worse…..

Munin -> RE: How to Play Flamenco Guitar: Creativity (Mar. 11 2009 13:13:47)

What's his name again? I've seen him on YouTube playing shoddy malaguena-esque stuff.

Also, guys like this are the reason why everyone thinks flamenco is musical anarchy where you can just do whatever the hell you want without rhythm or structure as long as you throw in some ****ty rumba strumming.

Man, the internet makes me angry sometimes.

JasonMcGuire -> RE: How to Play Flamenco Guitar: Creativity (Mar. 11 2009 13:23:20)

Shotgun..... He made an animated video depicting himself blowing Todd's head off with a shotgun, [8|]because he and I both criticized a video he posted playing bulerias out of compas.
He had been verbally abusive to a young guitarist in th UK who told him that what he was playing wasn't actually bulerias. I decided to step in. I noticed tha a different video he made had a comment by ToddK. All 3 of us seemed to make it into the animated rampage, although Todd had the staring role. In the video he mentioned that he was "a famous video star" and a "Christopher Parkening Master Student".[:D]
He either got shut down by YouTube or left on his own because the videos have been removed as well as the username. I actually play up in Concord quite a bit. [8D]

His name is Charles Sedlak.
He teaches private classes via Skype .

Wow, so it sounds like he really is very “creative”, and with “diverse” talents to boot!

His shred guitar playing isn't very good either. He uses a lot of spatial effects to mask errors.

gato -> RE: How to Play Flamenco Guitar: Creativity (Mar. 11 2009 18:34:36)

You know, the world is full of people all doing what they do, and you can't blame them when they stand out as foolish. Ignore them and get on with it, and really, I have been embarassed by my own behavior, we all get loose from time to time, and it's only human nature.

Otherwise what are strange people for? The world is full of them. As for me, I would rather not take lessons from this guy. And, they are not a rareity, come to think of it none of us really know anyone on the Internet and what they are all about until it's quite obvious.

But, to give lessons when you don't really know yourself, is a shame.....an obnoxious shame we can all do without. [;)]

some nutters out there in the music world. i was at a trad irish party a while back and the amount of paronia and weird vibes in the room made me very uncomfortable. alot of the party members were musicians and after a couple of drinks started dissing other musicians and those amongst themselves.

the ego can be an ugly thing sometimes.

LOL !
I would have liked to see the animation he created.
Btw this is the end of the malaguena video, "played in his own style".
LOl it seems someone has forgotten to choose a sensible title for the video.

Arash -> RE: How to Play Flamenco Guitar: Creativity (Mar. 12 2009 5:44:01)

There are a quite a few self-proclaimed "teachers" out there on youtube who are very astonished and very offended when you critisize something abviously wrong in their "teaching". Specially when they have already received one or two "5 star comments" from others already, who dont know anything about flamenco. I totally stopped to comment on such videos a long time ago as i realised that not only it doesn´t help to improve and/or correct something, but it is just counterproductive.

Seams like the Ego of these personalities is the only thing which is strong! It is kind of sophomoric sickness i guess.

On the other hand, you find many great players out there on youtube who totally underestimate their skills and musicality and write something like "poor attempt of playing a Paco falseta" or "just practicing, be nice....." or something.....and then you are totally surprised how good that "attempt "was....

Phrygian -> RE: How to Play Flamenco Guitar: Creativity (Mar. 12 2009 6:12:10)

He said be creative...how about taking the guitar and break it over his head while you scream OLÉ! Would that count as Flamenco?

I just had to post this from his website multo humoroso...

I like this funny stuff, he should have done with it an electrical guitar instead, and some nice distortion

If you put this guy in a blouse, some nice pants, a proper hair dress with some bryllcream in it and a pony tail, than he has the looks [;)] it's a start

Munin -> RE: How to Play Flamenco Guitar: Creativity (Mar. 12 2009 13:51:25)

I would buy this just for the laughs, but then I don't want that guy to receive just a single penny either...

bursche -> RE: How to Play Flamenco Guitar: Creativity (Mar. 12 2009 13:58:16)

He sells "Tarañtas" so to say.
He's rockin da Flamingo!

srshea -> RE: How to Play Flamenco Guitar: Creativity (Mar. 12 2009 13:58:33)

Jumpin’ jackrabbits! I didn’t realize that he had a commercially produced dvd for sale, I just thought this was some on-line youtube kind of deal!

As a general rule I prefer not to make fun of on-liners and their failed attempts at playing/teaching. It’s just kind of a bad energy, and in some sense I gotta respect anyone with the balls to put themselves out there like that. But this is just too much!

Sorry, Jason. I know I just started up my subscription to your site, but I think I’m going to have to switch over to those Sedlak skype lessons. I’m sure you understand. Please consider this my as my immediate resignation.
