This popped up as being "recommended for you" when I opened youtube today. They weren't wrong! Hard-as-nails cante and a typically funky/excellent Cepero falseta. Short but sweet:

Here's more from the same. Man, that Luis Habichuela can really bust a move!

What I want to know is where I could get some suits like those gitanos had.

She is one of my favorites....her album with Paco is amazing.

Yeah, I just gave that a listen.

Can you think of/recommend any cantaoras that have a similar hard-edged style and timbre? Paquera springs to mind as being similarly tuff, but I’d really be curious to hear of some current singers that sing like that. Seems like most of the younger ladies I’ve heard don’t really have as much of that sharp edge to them. Maybe it’s just a “they don’t make ‘em like they used to” kind of deal?......

Oh, also: how would you (or how would "they") characterize her voice in flamenco terms (afilla, rajo, etc.). Her voice is very clear and clean, but still super strong and hard-edged.....

Yep, she's a goddess. Check out her tangos, too!

great, didn't know she'd done an album with Paco, will have to look it up (i think i've got an album of her with Manolo Sanlucar on an old tape).

yeah, in general girls try to sing more "cute" these days than rough. But Maria does lots of stuff of Perla de Cadiz, you will like her too. Of course Nina de los Peines, Paquera as you said. I like Esperanza Fernandez a lot too, Chonchi Heredia can sing pretty strong too, though she is also a pop artist.

Also this young girl impressed me Felipa from Jerez...youtube is down now.

This is great stuff! I seem to listen to mostly "modern" Flamenco but this is a good reminder that there was Life before Paco[;)] (meaning no offence to anyone in particular[8D])

Nice tip on the Felipa del Moreno. She’s even got the same dress and hairdo as La Perla in this vid!

I’m interested in checking out Encarna Anillo’s record (I tried ordering it a while back, but it was out of stock, so I’ve been waiting…). I’ve seen some good youtube stuff, and, though it seems like some of the edges got polished in the studio, she seems pretty promising.
