ORIGINAL: karbor i want to know about flamenco guitar color. in the laquer guitar , which is beter for top code?, poly orthan or nitrocellulose or .... which factory,s sell this color,s? thank best regard karbor Don't use polyester or acrylic. They're made to remain slightly flexible for durability so they have a dampening affect on the sound. Nitrocellulose lacquer has problems too like crazing and strange reactions with some hardwoods but overall it's still the best lacquer for instruments. Never stain the bare wood. When this is done it emphasizes every blemish or curl which is fine in furniture but looks terrible on guitars. After enough coats of clear are applied and sanded almost completely off to get the grain filled one carefully sprays a coat of color followed by 3 or more coats of clear. We use alcohol based dye for coloring. It's cheap, transparent, comes in a myriad of colors for blending the tone you want and mixes readily with lacquer. You'll need to mask the rosette and bone inlays unless you want the guitar to look like a it's made in a factory.
