So as Doit and I were discussing: what do you usually play when you meet with a group of guitarists and jam together? In my case, it is mostly rumbas. Jason was saying that if you know your heavy-palo compases well, then jamming along a buleria duet will be just as easy as a rumba. In my case, I don't have jamming buddies that are firmly in-check with the heavier palos (I'm not sure how great I am as well! [8D]). That is why it is mostly rumbas.

I obviously do play falsetas of heavier palos for them, and they sometimes play a couple of simple falsetas for me as well, but we never get to play (for example) bulerias falsetas simultaneously (akin to PdL and Manolo Sanlucar's Compadres).

What do y'all think? [8|]

Rumba is not my favourite Palo (mine is bulerias, for me the most exciting Palo), but i dont like bulerias (or any other Palo) with more than one Guitar. Imo, Rumba is the only Palo which sounds good and is fun when "jamming" with others and the only Palo which sounds good with more than one guitar.
You can have 2 or 3 guitarists play chords and one solo, and Rumba still sounds good even with 4 guitars.

And it is the Palo which "Listeners" enjoy most. So if you have a party, Rumba is the key.

But when i am alone, i rarely play Rumba. Rumba is the last Palo on my list when i am alone.
Of course, there are also Solo Rumba pieces which are very nice and which are not easy to play. Like that one from Ricardo.
But somehow i prefer to concentrate on the other Palos when alone.

hello,
I have couple of musician friends who are not into flamenco, and with them rumba is the nicest and easyest way to share. How ever I always want to play some tangos or buleria compas just to get them more familiar with those rhytms also [;)]
I dont have any flamenco guitarist friend with who I could jam, but definetily if I would have one, I would like to play mostly other palos but sometimes some rio ancho and entre dos aquas as well.
This is just what I prefer and like, and anyway now Im in the position that mostly I have to play alone, so I would be happy if I could have some rumbafriends.
I think alegrias is also quite friendly palo. Its light and energetic, If one can do that good(which I cannot) it definetily suits to even non flamenco party.
Then again, it all depends so much about the style of the player.
