Hi. It's not free but I recommend changing to MOV files and using Transcribe. Transcribe does a pretty good job and lets you select loop areas as well as playback speed.

I use a piece of free software called Cinemaforge 2.0.
I think I found it on download.com.

You have to experiment with some of the settings to get what you want.
I think its my codecs, but after conversion, theres a DivX logo in the bottom
right corner of the screen. I can live with that for now.

One bonus- you can adjust the screen size of the output and make
files for handheld vid players.

Works good. I've saved a bunch.

As an aside, some files on youtube are .mp4. I simply changed the extension to .wmv ....and it works.
