kozz -> Help for a new flamenco guitar! (AMALIO BURGUET 2f???) (Feb. 26 2009 0:51:11)

Hello everyone,
I am new to the forum, and I could use some advise.

About 9 months ago I started learning Flamenco guitar. A noob as I was (and still am I suppose) I bought my self a low priced guitar to see if this hobby would last.
It was the Alhambra 3F.

Now I am willing to buy a new guitar which will much more suite my personal sound taste and I really like the guitars with almost no sustain.

Do you people have good advise for a new guitar between 1000 - 1500 euros? I was told the AMALIO BURGUET 2f was a good follow up to get this more authentic sound.

Or is it better to spend a little more to get that authentic sound? I do not want to spent that much yet, maybe in the future when I got more skills [:)]

thanks

I've got a Burguet 2F and I'll personally deliver it to your doorstep for 1500 euros [:D]

Seriously though, I love it, and it is a nice guitar - and it's quite definitely a flamenco guitar. Mine is from 1998 though, so I don't know how much it resembles the current 2f.

I don't think you have to spend that much money if you are patient and hunt around - to give you an idea I bought mine second hand for about 350-400 euros (depending on the exchange rate..).

Hello.
I was in the same dillemma with you and i prefer to spend a little more and buy an Anders Eliasson blanca. I wanted to have a guitar from a specialist and i cant wait to keep it to my hands. Just check his website www.eliassonguitars.com and you wont regret it.[;)]

Hee thanks people for the quick reactions!

I will deffinately check out the items....it's hard to get around with all the brands available and eventually make a choice.

Funny though, I ordered the Anders Eliasson DVD earlier this week, just because I got a interested in guitar making. Not that I am ever going to, but for the fun of it.

I'll let you know when got my mind made up!

Thanks again,
Remco

Kozz,
Welcome to the Foro! This discussion comes up fairly often here so you maybe able to do a search on beginner's guitar questions. When I started I had the same questions as you and my advice would be to just continue to use your Alhambra. Give yourself another year or so and save your money for a nice instrument if you really want to continue this wonderful hobby. To be honest, I haven't found there to be a great deal of difference between a $300 instrument and a $1,500 one, unless you happen across a bargain in the process. The problem is at this stage you probably won't understand the difference that is unless you have some years of experience with guitars. I started with a Manuel Rodriguez C3F and it was ok, I played it for about 3 years and then purchased an Burguet 1F which is a very nice instrument but now 7 years into Flamenco, and i'm probably ready for an even nicer instrument. I will probably purchase a luthier made instrument in the future as I feel my skills have improved to the point it makes sense. I'm accompanying dancers and need a good solid working instrument that I can depend on... Don't be in a big hurry to spend your money, use what you have, enjoy the journey of learning and you will know when its time to buy a better instrument!

think of it this way...
if you can make a weak guitar sound nice, imagine what you can make a nice one sound like. [:D]

Thanks everybody.

The last few comments made me think.
It indeed is true, if you can make a beginners guitar sound good, than a real guitar even sounds better, so it makes sence to wait a little longer.

So that's what I've decided, just to wait another year, and go for a handmade guitar of Anders, they are just beautifull.

Although I must admid it's hard to wait, in the end it will turn out better!

Thanks for the advice.
