Hi,

I'm in too! But like Leo earlier, can't decide which level to do so would like to have a go and let you know later if that's ok..

Also, is there a video of the challenges? I don't read tab too well (well, barely at all actually) and tend to learn by watching and copying.

Cheers,

Jenny

Hi welcome guys ...

I am sure you can find a video for the Moraito one on youtube...Buleriando..il have a look for you too..

I dont have a video for Oscar Herrero ones..there might be on youtube ..its from

Oscar Herrero 24 Estudios...maybe some member might be able to help you out with the video..

let me know how u going with it...

reading tab is really eazy
theres 6 lines ...each representing each string..

1---------------------------------
2--------------------------------
3---------------------------------
4----------------------------------
5-------------------------------------
6-----------------------------------

theres about 19 frets on yor guitar
so each number represents a fret...

this means the second string open
-------------------------------------
----------0--------------------------
--------------------------------------
--------------------------------------
-------------------------------------
------------------------------------

so count out 5 frets (the boxes) on the neck of your guitar
so in tab this would be written like this

this means the the first string on the fifth fret..
------------------5--------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------

a chord is all the numbers perfectly on top as eachother..

this represents a chord
-------------------------------------------------------
-------2-------------------------------------------------
-------2------------------------------------------------
-------2------------------------------------------------
-------0-----------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------

when the notes are represented like this it means arrpegio...starting from the first one...(when they look like a piramid)..sometimes theres one sometimes there more...in my example theres 2

--------2------------------------------------------
------2---0-----------------2-----------------------
----2-------0------------2----2------------------------
------------------------0--------2-----------------
------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------

thats pretty much that basics...

all u need to learn is the sign for hammer- on, pull-offs, Slide, Rasqueado, Glope ( the tap)...u can do that using the audio...theres a very very slow version there too

feel free to ask any specific questions as you move through it..

hope this helps a litlle atleast

Okay, as an occasional poster I'm coming out of the lurkers closet, delurked, disrobed etc ready for the beginners challenge...

This is a great idea (and great implementation!) btw - thanks for all the effort you've put into it.

Teehee I did kind of know that a bit but I like the way you explain things and know I probably should try with tabs a bit more. They just take me aaaages... and I often get them the wrong way up so I make some pretty interesting noises!

Am really looking forward to this!

And Domzo, is that Dom from Oxford too? I know you're a lurker on here but don't know if that's you!

No - I tend to spare the public from my playing!

Had a couple of lessons from Rafael about a year ago, which was really inspring.

I think he may hold open mike nights/penas, which I thought I may brave at some point!

You Sick Sick man Besides, it would take a bit more than 3 weeks to perfect.

...and while you are at it there is no need to suggest "la Barrosa", "Siempre es tarde", "flight of the bumblebee" or some rediculous Vicente buleria either.

Actually I think someone professional but neutral like Grisha should set the advanced challenge and advanced entries then have 2 months to upload.

:)
you're right...but when i thought of advanced, i thought it should be more difficult than Buleriando and i should have a tab of it plus i have to like the piece - that's how i came up with it :)
oh and since the other challenges are bulerías, this should be also...although i'd really like something else there, like a nice soleá or spb...

Oscar Herrero 24 Estudios

Description from sales blurb
...This volume has been elaborated with a view to the training of intermediate level guitarists; for students who already have a correct technique that they execute automatically, and who have already passed the author's 21 Flamenco Guitar Studies (Elementary level)...

Beginner challenge: This is why I'm nervous about this piece. I have the 21 Studies, but have only done 2 exercises from it so far. Still - I'll give it a go - nothing ventured and all that

val,

Try just learning it "parrot" fashion to begin with.
There's a lot to be said for this method, since once you have it "under your fingers" so to speak, you start to "feel" the underlying rhythms and can then begin to examine the piece in more depth.

I think El Carbonero and others teach like this. (?)

cheers,

Ron

manuel kinda gives you a slice of a intro falseta (depending on your level), gives you other melodies and a remate or finish sequence. in some cases you can end up with a whole piece.

later on he shows variations or more complex versions of the same theme ie last year he taught me short thumb falseta for siguiriyas which would stand on its own, this year he showed me the same thing i did it straight away and he said "ah heres the follow on" and proceeded to show me an extra min and a half falseta which fits onto it then back to compas.

Whats about "la ardila" from Tomatito for the advanced challenge? It has some tricky parts and there is space for own interpretations. And its not too long!
