Falsetas por Tientos

I'm looking for some good, maybe modern or trad falsetas for Tientos, Its a form I have never paid much attention to, as it doesent seem to work that well as a solo palo due to the compas restrictions, compared to other forms, like Buleria, I already have a good tremelo intro I knicked from,a Cante CD by a German Guitarist, all the falsetas I have ever heard for tientos sound boring, and instantly forgetable, by the way how does one count out a tientos.
Cheers

Dave,
Paco Peña does quite an entertaining solo Tientos/Tangos on his first album "The Incredible Paco Peña". Quite "punter pleasing" and "Spanishy" falsetas.
You may find it a bit boring though, if you're used to listening to Riqueni stuff!
It just uses straightforward traditional chords.
I don't know how you count Tientos, I just know how it goes.
I find that with some palos, it's easier just to pick up the rhythm rather than to try to count the stuff out.
The rhythm is very clear on the track I've mentioned.

cheers

Ron

Hi Ron,

A nice way to think of tientos compas is as follows:

...a one and two and a three, a one and two and a three.... where the 'two and' beats are emphasised.

Hope it makes sense

Cheers
Jim.

Hi Jim,
I thought you would have counted thus:-
Up the Cel-tic, Oh Up the Celtic.. Up the Cel-tic....etc etc

Dave,

It's counted in 4's and goes round 4 times, so one cycle of any traditional tune would normally be 16 beats.

The swing in the compas however, is the important thing to capture and that's as Ron very elequantly put it;

Up the Cel-tic, Oh Up the Celtic.. Up the Cel-tic....etc etc

Cheers
Jim.

There's a good basic accompaniment on the solo compas por tientos cd with arcángel singing and somebody whose name i forget at the moment dancing. Gives you reference for baile as well as cante if you need it. it's pretty useful. fergus gave me a copy last autumn. Or the manuel grandanos accompaniment book/cd for cante gives nice compas without the falsetas but good for getting your head into tientos. Maybe you want something more advanced but I think they are good for getting confidence with the compas and the structure.
