Wolf Man?

Hey...
I heard a great programme this morning about an American DJ of the 60's called "Wolfman" or "Wolfman Jack" and later just "Wolf".
Incredible stories about his radio station on the Mexican side of the border to the US so he could defy all the regulatory restrictions imposed by the authorities.
When local stations had a limit of 1000 Watts output and verbal content he had this station pushing out 50,000 Watts which could apparently be heard all over the US at night time, pushing all the barriers content wise as well as great music as varied as Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, to the Grateful Dead!
A guy said, that the power output was so high that if you were close to the transmitter, you could hear the programme in your teeth! and the wires used to glow ...LOL!
One Engineer said that there were all these dead pigeons they'd find in the morning having flown over the station.
I'd never heard about him before.
He had this really sinister voice.
Really great programme!

Any of you American folk heard him?

cheers,

Ron

I think most people in the USA have heard of him. He played himself in the movie "American Graffiti." He made a lot of cameo appearances on TV in the 1970's and 1980's and was a well-known personality--basically a household name.

You can read about him here: Wolfman Jack

Heard him? In the little hick town I lived in as a kid in the 60's he was a main stay, but like you said, only at night.
